Absolutely, but it depends on the amount of active connections. It's very light, rarely uses a couple of percent of CPU of a cheap VPS - network IO is the limiting factor.

It's still under very active development as you can see by bootstrap. Coinchat is commercial through, I can release the core server software as FOSS, but if it's a good strategy for me is something else.

Well now, that's a complicated discussion, not meaning to go into it. Fact remains that easily distributable irc-like chat server has a future. We're not talking here of Bitcoin Gem sort of stuff, this looks like a genuine shot at something. Especially if it also includes good encryption natively.

What you make of that...well now that's your job isn't it.

Ok, I have some questions:

By 25/50 active unique users do you mean concurrent users? If concurrent, would I need to have 50 people at any given moment for the whole month? Or a total of 50 different people who are active but not necessarily 50 at the same time? If so, how long would those people need to be online and actively participating in a discussion? If I create two rooms does it add up or is each rooms number of unique users counted separately?

You need at least 25/50 different people who are active at the same time. However, active doesn't mean they need to be constantly saying something, if they sign in every so often and do something they will be counted as active. (Exact way I'm calculating is not disclosed to make gaming harder)

You can't have 50 people who says one thing every 24 hours, the script may accept that but I have the final say. It must be organic and natural, get what I mean?

I created a custom client for it: http://whiskers75.github.io/whiskchat/index.html
Adds some enhancements and interface improvements.
The source is whiskers75/whiskchat on GitHub.
Enjoy! Smiley
