I created a wallet on a netbook that is only connected to the net wirelessly. I've been watching it crunch through, i guess it is the blockchain data, for days. it has been partially hampered by a wonky internet connection also, but it is still taking awhile. I'm not concerned about the time it is taking, except...
This got me thinking, these chains do nothing but grow? for as long as bitcoins are used as tender? every transaction is put in a new block in the chain?
Am i the only one who sees a problem with this? over years the chain will become so long that it will take months, or years, for a new wallet to sync up. not to mention the amount of disk space that will be needed to store the chain.
Is there something that i'm not seeing? someway to trim the size of the chain?
