The Belgian Minister of justice proposed to confiscate all cryptocurrencies and begin to regulate all transactions with digital currencies.
Cohen gens, the Minister of justice of Belgium, believes that cryptocurrencies are used by terrorists, criminals and drug traffickers, and therefore the company developing in the sphere of cryptocurrency should be under strict government control. "All our laws to combat abuses based on the reaction intermediary in the financial sector. Acting on today the law does not include virtual currency, because they were not at the time of writing the legislative framework. You need to change the law so that we could cope with the abuse of Bitcoin". Cohen gens proposed to introduce strict laws to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. The Ministry of justice is currently working on new procedures for identifying virtual coins. Moreover, they want to find a solution for the possible forfeiture of the cryptocurrency in Belgium.
In the past the Belgian police have confiscated Bitcoins from drug traffickers during the investigation of criminal cases. But it is unclear whether any body to seize all of the cryptocurrencies in circulation, even in one country.

Confiscate?Is he a communist?
I guess this is another "bitcoin=money laundering+money from drugs" story.
Anyway Belgium is a small country and nobody cares about them.

Lol. What was he thinking? What he should do it to put a tighter regulation on the used of bitcoin in Belgium just like any countries have been doing lately. He can't stop the use of bitcoin, legal or illegal means. And it Belgium doesn't really want bitcoin then simply ban it. But I hope they are making the right decision because they don't want to be left out in this kind of technological revolution.

It is obvious, Koen Gheens view about Bitcoin is way back when it was used in blackmarket, I wonder if he updated himself about BTC.  Or maybe he see Bitcoin as a threat to Belgium finance institution since he was the previous finance minister of Belgium, his ideology automatically oppose Bitcoins.  He just made these terrorist and money laundering issue as an excuse to make his action look heroic.

References or it didn't happen.  I get most of my crypto news from this forum, and I believe absolutely NONE of it unless there's a link involved somewhere.

But I have to laugh.  How's any government going to "confiscate all cryptocurrencies"?  Good luck with that one, I'll believe it when I see it.

The guy doesn't understand the concept of cryptocurrencies, he think it is  possible to confiscate coins, his only opinion is that it facilitate illegal activities ect. Be sure if you ask him how it works he won't be able to tell you anything about crypto

Why would they bother making an attempt to confiscate cryptocurrencies? It's not like there's a measurable benefit for them and they will not noticeably decrease the amount of crime or terror within Belgium. This is seeming like a smoke-and-mirrors op to try and make sure that the citizens of Belgium are forced into the Euro and aren't allowed to use any alternatives.

Fascinating to be honest. Wasn't expecting this from a country like Belgium.

Ah, the Netherlands.
But on the map it looks like a province of the Netherlands.
They even speak the same language, except for some people who seem to speak French.
Is it like Canada?

Confiscate? Really? He will transfer all cryptos to his wallet? It is very technical and difficult to implement it. The wallet owner can simply save the private keys and delete or forget the wallet.I hope they would follow Japan,Philippines ,India how to deal with cryptocurrencies.

They can't be serious.

I don't have a law degree, but I'm sure they can't confiscate a sh*t without any proven criminal activities related to. It's against basic people freedoms.
Belgium is a EU country and this could lead to a very ugly precedent. Also, every EU country have a commission for criminal money investigations, but they are dealing only with the big fish, not some crypto-optimists.

If you dont have any illegal activity then dont worry.Law change usually depends on situations.
