I saw the Windows Feathercoin gui announced on https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=188134.0 and so far the GUI works as far as synchronising and encrypting the wallet, but I cannot get mining to work.  Huh

Where is good guidance for setting up mining, either solo or through a pool? I already mine with the BitMinter client, which worked first time.

The thread at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178286.0 tells me to setup the .conf like this:

server=1
daemon=1
rpcuser=miner
rpcpassword=SetSomeRandomPassword
rpcport=8100
port=8101

Should "miner" be set to something specific?

Is there a link to a detailed overview of what this client does? I cannot tell if it includes a mining client like BitMinter's client does.

The client's Start Mining does not give any feedback and I see no load on my CPU or GPUs, I suspect a separate miner program is needed?

I registered with http://fhc.ub3rl3[Suspicious link removed]m/ and set up the client to pool mine on that server, but the client reports:

"minerd --algo scrypt --scantime 99 --url http://fhc.ub3rl3[Suspicious link removed]m:9344 --userpass myusername.1:mypassword --threads 99 --retries -1 -P

[23:31:47] - Miner failed to start. Make sure you have the minerd executable and libraries in the same directory as Feathercoin-Qt.
"

The pool's getting started page suggests I should use cgminer. Is that required?

Thanks for any pointers.

Three days ago I mined Feathercoins solo with 396khash/s (6950) for about 6h but I got only 2 stales/invalids, so i went back to LTC pool mining.

Could you post how you mined them? Which programs and which command lines?

Use cgminer. Same .conf as litecoin, just swap out hostname and login info for FC pool. Simple

Ok, thanks for the help. cgminer reports "Pool 0 slow/down or URL or credentials invalid".

How exactly should I setup Feather and/or cgminer?

What exactly should be placed in feathercoin.conf?

I downloaded cgminer 3.0.1 and ran this command in a Windows command prompt:

Code:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://fhc.poolname.com:9344 -u your_user_name.1 -p passwordforpool

cgminer reported:

Code:
 [2013-04-27 02:19:57] Started cgminer 3.0.1
 [2013-04-27 02:19:57] Started cgminer 3.0.1

 [2013-04-27 02:19:58] Pool 0 slow/down or URL or credentials invalid

 [2013-04-27 02:20:57] Please check the details from the list below of the serve
rs you have input
 [2013-04-27 02:20:57] Most likely you have input the wrong URL, forgotten to ad
d a port, or have not set up workers

The URL is copied from http://fhc.ub3rl3[Suspicious link removed]m/news.php, and I found no mention of how to setup workers in cgminer's help.
(EDIT: this forum removes part of the URL, which is http://fhc dot ub3r l 3 3 t dot com/news.php - some .s replaced by "dot"s and some spaces inserted)

This should be correct:

Code:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://fhc.ub3rl33t.com:9344 -u your_user_name.1 -p x

Okay, thanks, I was using that command but with a password for the fhc account.

When I use exactly "-p x" cgminer  does start, and does show a hash rate, but is shown as inactive on the fhc stats webpage.

(EDIT: the fhc page has started showing I'm active now!But I still suspect it's using the Intel and not the nVidia)

Code:

The config file saved from cgminer looks incomplete to me, after the pools section - :
Code:
"intensity" : "d",
"vectors" : "1",
"worksize" : "256",
"kernel" : "scrypt",
"lookup-gap" : "0",
"thread-concurrency" : "0",
"shaders" : "0",
"gpu-engine" : "0-0",
"gpu-fan" : "0-0",
"gpu-memclock" : "0",
"gpu-memdiff" : "0",
"gpu-powertune" : "0",
"gpu-vddc" : "0.000",
"temp-cutoff" : "95",
"temp-overheat" : "0",
"temp-target" : "0",
"api-port" : "4028",
"expiry" : "120",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"hotplug" : "5",
"log" : "5",
"no-pool-disable" : true,
"queue" : "1",
"scan-time" : "60",
"scrypt" : true,
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"

I suspect my cgminer is still not configured correctly or otherwise cannot use the nVidia's GPU (the display looks like my Intel GPU performance ).

Its not advicable to mine on your GPU with an Nvidia video cart as it is not supported. GPU mining is best done with AMD video carts

I can't see what I'm doing wtrong here - I've successfully mined both BTC and LTC in the past using cgminer, my config is as below.

From my .bat file;

cgminer --scrypt -o http://fhc.ub3rl3[Suspicious link removed]m:9344 -u worker.worker -p xxxxxxxx

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks,

Looks alright, should try the Stratum server just in case that's the issue. stratum+tcp://fhc.ub3rl33t .com:3334
If it's not that, would have to be a problem with the worker name/pass

A already tried the stratum URL and got the same thing.  I'm obviously missing something here.

I also tried a different pool, registered, set up a worker, changed my conf file, no cigar.

Am I right in thinking I can use a standard cgminer instance and a conf file to mine feathercoins?  Is cgminer fundamentally different for feathercoins?

In case anyone stumbles across this - I wasn't doing anything wrong.  This is running on a different port, which was blocked at the firewall.

Once I opened the port, it was fine.

Also, here is my suggestion, with a GUI (GUIminer-scrypt alpha).

THe pool I mention on the tutorial may not be the best as there seem to be doubts about payments and reliability, but its enough to see how it works. I will try to update it later if doubts about the pool are real and/or if someone suggests me a better pool.

So there it goes: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=193223.0

Edit: Maybe this one instead: http://feathercoin.is-a-geek.com/?

I mined at http://fhc.ub3rl33t.com for two hours and on the webpage it shows zero and zero shares submitted.

Yet on my client it shows that i have nearly submitted 500 shares.  I would not minethere again.  Those people cheated me out so I becareful.

I had a similar experience of being cheated by Eclipse Mining (EMC) when mining Btc.
