How many of you use dual PSU?

It's not recommended with any psu , i tried it before and problems started sort of hanging , sudden freeze,some raisers just die with no reason , i was connect dual 500w psu to get 1000w total , but i was jumpering the second psu , i didn't use the dual atx connector

I have hundreds of altcoin rigs running 2-3 PSUs.....there is no reason not to especially since you can power the graphics cards off of higher end server power supplies at a fraction of the cost of an expensive ATX supply.

You can buy a cheap no name brand ATX psu to power the board and run a high quality PSU on the graphics cards.

The price of dual PSU is much cheaper than single PSU

Enermax 1500 watt is $250
Enermax 700 watt is around $70

Atx connector is only $7

So dual PSU is far more cost efficient.

However, some says we need higher quality PSU. I have no idea why.

Yes you can just make sure you ground the 2 PSUs together and make sure not to mix any 12V together between the PSUs.

Meaning if a GPU requires 6+8 pin, don't connect the 6 pin to 1 PSU and the other to the alternate one.

Since I just ordered a splitter to connect two PSU to a single mainboard, could you please confirm I won't need it?
Just to make sure, I can connect 1 PSU to the mainboard and two GPUs (riser and power supply), and then connect second PSU directly to another set of riser and GPU?

I'm thinking of applying this to my build, but I'm not really familiar with Server PSU's .
The rig I'm doing is going to include 7 RX470's; will most PSU's around the 1200W work with this many GPU's? At a guess i'd say I'd need to do some electrical work on it to connect up the PCI-E plugs

Thanks for the link, that looks like a good option, however I'm a little unsure if 1200W is enough to power 7 570's (my country ran out of 470's :/) at the optimal efficiency load

can i use a 1300-EVGA-g2 and a 1200w platinum server psu together for a 9 x gtx-1070 rig?

I think the EVGA can power the mobo, cpu and 4 x 1070s

and the server psu will power the remaining 5 cards.

My objective is safe load balance of power for this rig.

OS will be nvOC-Linux, mobo Asus Prime Z270-A (7 x PCI slots, 2 x M2), i3-7100, 4gb DDR4 RAM

The 1070s are Zotac 1070 Minis, and will be set to +200 core, +900 mem, powerlimit 125

No need to do so. I am mining with 5 RX 480 at the same motherboard and a Corsair Rm1000i gold plus runs smoothly from some months without problems. If you want to mine more than 5 and up to 7 GPU-s at the same time EVGA Supernova G2 1300 watt runs pretty smooth.
If you want to use Nvidias for mining a Thermal take toughpower 850 watt gold plus can run easily 4 cards and with a bit of difficulty 5 GTX 1060/1070. Why would you want to use dual PSU ? I see no reason for that.

I run all my risers and motherboards off of an ATX power supply and all of the video card 6/8 pins off of a repurposed server PSU. Its worked on countless machines without issue.

I leave the server PSU on always and just power up the PC like it was a normal computer so im not sure what you are asking.

13 amps @ 110v should be safe up to 1400 watts. Not sure what your setup is but if you know its total wattage you should be good.

Hi.  I plan to run 6X - 1080ti gtx.  Those take 250 watts each at stock settings.  1600watt atx power supply is not enough if i plan to run them at stock settings for now.  

can I use a cheap atx power supply to power the motherboard and cpu? and an Hp server power supply to power the GPUs only?  

Is there additional components I need to make this work?   Can they both be plugged into the same circuit 2 outlet rated at 20 amps 120 volt?


In the link below i noticed that it has a 6 pin for the vga in power supply.  the  atx version has 8 pin on the power supply for vga.  Will this cause issues with the 1080ti gtx?
