Hi All,

Relatively new to mining, have a rig in a spare room of my house.  Finding this really fun, so I want to expand a bit more by building a shed in the back yard.  Problem is, I don't think my house has enough power.  What do I do?  Do I just call the power company and tell them, "I NEED MORE POWER!!!!" and they will handle it?  Or, is there certain things I should ask for and phrases I should avoid using?

Also, how would I run the power to the shed?

Thanks!

Depends on where you are by red flags.

Lots of work shops require more than enough power to run a small mine and if you're building a workshop to run welders, air compressors, and other "shop tools" -- you're going to have plenty of power. Your city may have restrictions but its up to the electrician to advise you on what permits are needed if any and you would need to work through that.

Bottom line, you should have a professional evaluate your needs, provide a quote and then tell you what you need to do.

no  but there are codes etc.

So what comes into you home?

do you have a 150 amp
or a 200 amp box?

does it have 2 120 lines coming into it.

do you have a 240 volt  central a/c ?

my home had 2x 120 volt lines coming it

but only a 100 amp box.

years ago I upgraded to a 150 amp box.

I have 32 circuits vs 20

I have 3 240 amp lines 1 for ac 2 for mining.

I can feed 11,000 watts 24/7 for my miners. never do it as house gets too hot even it if is 20f outside.

There should be no red flags. You are not doing anything illegal.

Decide how many rigs you will be running and if you will be adding more in the future make sure you add that as well. Next you need to decide if you are going underground or overhead service for your new electrical panel. Where im located the power provider will only do 200 amp underground services. Personally thats what im putting in and doesnt make sense to go smaller as the cost isnt that much different for me vs 100amp. I too am going with a shed mining solution as i think i can keep them much cooler this way.

Really all you need to do is tell them you want a second service set for your shop. Generally the home owner can do the work them selves but you will need an electrical permit and an inspection. If you have never done this before then you should hire an electrician. no one needs to know whats going in your shop because thats YOUR business. Shouldnt be to complicated. I work in planning and zoning and deal with this stuff everyday.
