Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Very badly outdated by now.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

sidehack is making usbsticks using more recent chips... However, if you calculate the hashrate vs the power usage plus the extra costs for a controller and a powered usb hub, i don't think they can compete with an S7-S9 (didn't bother to do the math)...
Sidehack does a great job, but AFAIK, his sticks are best for hobby miners, education or playing blockchain lotto.

At this moment, nothing tops the S9 (afaik) when talking about Joule/Ghs. That being said, you'll still need a sub 7 cents/Kwu electricity rate if you want a shot at making profit (there are many other factors, but the electricity rate is the biggest)

DIY is largely for entertainment or learning purpose these days.

If you are serious about striking a profit, you will have to go with one of those commercial ASICs.

Efficiency wise, S9 is the no-brainer to go. Followed by T9/A7/E9 pretty much at a second-tier but still decent level. Do note that the later 3 all have noticeably more improved reliability over S9.

Having access to cheap power is also critical. GL.

Customizable full-featured crypto trading platform in development. Asking for demo if interested.

I offer private S9 rental for various length: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1708351.0
