Hmm. What could be easier to achieve? Live for over 20 years longer than any other recorded human being...

Or claim to?

I don't know true or not, but if it is true then imagine how his life changed from the moment of birth. He has witnessed 2 world wars, the advent of electricity. Started with horses and ended car. In the 20th century had the most changes. I would also like to see what will come up in the future.

I don't think there'll ever be another century like the 20th again. Just think of the leaps that took place. From flight being a pipe dream to landing on the moon.

The future seems to be getting poxier and more introverted by the day. When I was born they were still talking about Mars bases. Now the shit that gets the most media coverage is a redesigned home button on an IPhone.

I was watching stuff from the 90s the other day. Internet aside, nothing's changed. People dress the same, talk the same, the music and films from back then could be released today and no one would notice any difference.

There is pretty much nothing interchangeable between the 50s and the 70s. The last truly charismatic decade was the 80s, and maybe not for the most appealing reasons.

Progress seems to have disappeared up a tech arse while the rest of the world stagnates.

He was residing in the island of Jawa, which was more or less unaffected by the world wars. Also, there was no internet or social media at that time. He might have heard about the world war a few times, but I bet he might have had no idea about the participants or the cause.

Yeah, maybe the only possible way to live that long is to live on a secluded island with pure air, water and organic food, without wars, stress and worries of the modern world. But in that case why live 100+ years if life goes past you?

Well, we all must go. I hope he died at home, calm and surrounded by his family.

Our body is designed for 200-300 years of life. Only it is necessary to lead a correct way of life.

We're actually living far longer than previous generations, heck, far longer than those from more ancient civilizations that supposedly got everything figured out. This is despite all the pollution and the food we're eating. Even citizens in third-world countries would live longer than the middle-class in say, ancient Egypt.

I wouldn't mind living up to 300 as long as I look just 30. Unfortunately, I'll probably just look like a raisin.

It is also not conducive to longevity. Michael Jackson slept in a hyperbaric chamber and he led a pretty decent life, take care of yourself, but it did not help him to live long. On the other hand there are homeless people who live 80+

LOL.. Can you even imagine? A life without cable TV, internet, FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, Skype, WhatsApp.etc. Can you even survive for one week on such a location? Anyway, what is the point in living up to 100 years, if you can't enjoy your life?

In order to survive in such a place without the benefits of civilization, one must prepare for the fact that one will have to extract food, live in the open air and love loneliness very much.

Yes, some homeless people can live for a rather long time. It all depends on each person, all the organisms are different and they need different conditions for a normal existence.

I guess he meant to enjoy the simplicity of life. I'd only probably sign up for such a life if I have my family with me.

Who can even know or imagine how this old man lived. Because you can still live a full life to some 60 70 years, but in the extreme case to 80, and everything else is probably a serious existence in the presence of serious diseases.

If you have little kids with you, do you really expect them to tolerate a life without electricity, air conditioners, refrigerator, and TV? And most importantly, the kids will feel isolated without the presence of other children in their locality.

Yeah, past 80 is just too much. There are people who have cancer diagnosed at 70 or 80. The longer you live the greater the chance cells make an error when replicating. Not to mention the wear and tear of living, especially if you abused your body when you were younger. This is why when people say they want to live forever, I just shrug. Even if you can stay 18 for eternity and not die, what's the use of it?

You do have a point. It can even look selfish. I'd only really probably try living in isolation if I can also have conveniences with me (thank goodness solar is getting better every year) and if I can go back to the city anyway for the occasional tour and medical check up. I think what really makes people weary of modern life is all the constant interaction, it's becoming harder to have even just a full hour of peace to ourselves.

Some people have chosen such a life though and don't want to look back. I saw a documentary about a man and his family living on a tiny island. When asked if he never thought of moving closer to town, his response was "If we go there more often, the kids... they begin to want things. They can't have them and will just be disappointed, so I'd rather just have them stay here,".

If children are very small, they easily adapt to conditions without modern technology and in adulthood may not want to live among people.

Indeed there are many cases when little children were discovered in the jungle. They have adapted to life in the wild and will never be able to adapt to life in society. They even say you can't teach. Is this life?

He was from the island of Java. With the exception of the major cities such as Djakarta, Java is a very clean and pristine region. In the mountains, you will hardly find any pollution. This may be the secret behind his longevity.

Yeah, maybe the only possible way to live that long is to live on a secluded island with pure air, water and organic food, without wars, stress and worries of the modern world. But in that case why live 100+ years if life goes past you?

LOL.. Can you even imagine? A life without cable TV, internet, FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, Skype, WhatsApp.etc. Can you even survive for one week on such a location? Anyway, what is the point in living up to 100 years, if you can't enjoy your life?

I guess he meant to enjoy the simplicity of life. I'd only probably sign up for such a life if I have my family with me.

If you have little kids with you, do you really expect them to tolerate a life without electricity, air conditioners, refrigerator, and TV? And most importantly, the kids will feel isolated without the presence of other children in their locality.

If children are very small, they easily adapt to conditions without modern technology and in adulthood may not want to live among people.
Indeed there are many cases when little children were discovered in the jungle. They have adapted to life in the wild and will never be able to adapt to life in society. They even say you can't teach. Is this life?

They have a different life without modern technology. Maybe there are some pluses, but I can not adapt to this because I'm already too used to the comfort that technology creates.
