Seems that with all the new money coming into crypto, mining is still profitable. What say you?

...and you don't mind ruining good hardware for the sake of earning a few dollars worth of bitcoins. Why not look into mining alts with a GPU? |

These days it's impossible to say that mining is dead. Almost every card has a ROI around 100days, that's like the best ROI time in years.. Let's hope it last |

I'm currently building a rig of rx480s (since I heard that the 5xx consume a bit higher electricity or something ). It'll be up and running probably at June first since the money isn't available now. I pay about $0.04/kw where I live so that's what is mainly pushing me to do it  |

It's alive and thriving right now... just look at the plethora of coins that are profitable to mine right now. We're mining 2 rigs atm, with 3 more about to be built and a plans for up to 8 additional rigs after that.

I pay £0.15 per Kw, so £80/month on 1 rig so not the cheapest and returns are still very profitable... although I'm mostly doing it for a hobby cause find it really enjoyable

LOL He should definitely think about doing a hosting service with power rates like that. hahaha way up here in the PNW. My current plans will fill out my current electrical panel and service. No plans to colo at the moment. Trying to figure out how and where I'm going to fit more rigs for myself. |

Have you looked into any prices for the cost of adding an electrical service? We have a 300 amp (200+100) service in our house and another 100 amp service in the barn right now, but I'm curious about adding another 200 amp service in the barn in a couple of years if profitability stays anywhere decent.  |

If I do really have the money I would really go on bitcoin mining by purchasing asic miners since electricity cost on my place is somehow cheap which can somehow assure guaranteed roi if rigs wont bust out but I end up only on gpu mining which I can say still profitable depends on gpu you used and what coins you do mine.

I haven't yet. I'm still a few rigs away from needing more juice. Since our power comes in overhead instead of underground I can't imagine it would be a huge cost. |

Out here you can mine alts for about 70% profit. Yes, electricity is dirt cheap compared to the US for example. About 0.07$ per kw/h average. It's a true renaissance of mining. Everybody's been buying rigs like crazy, even the people who've never even built a PC before in their lives. There is a real shortage of hardware though, especially motherboards. It's not that there aren't any, it's that whenever a shipment arrives it gets instantly bought out mostly by the bigger miners.

Whatever the power rate , when you mine with latest Nvidia cards from 1060 up to 1080 and mine Zcash you will make at least some profit as these cards consume very low power, about 100 watt the 1060 when mining , about 120 watt 1070 and about 150 watt the 1080. These are at stock settings, you can undervolt them to perform better and consume lower watts. Same with the RX series.
I am talking about home enthusiast mining persons and not to make this a business. When you make this a business the power cost is a big factor in deciding your outcome together with the price of altcoins/bitcoin.
