Hi. I have two online wallets. I imagine both of these companies keep logs. If I was to send a bitcoin payment from one of my wallets, to another wallet, is it ever possible to link these 2 wallets up? If both accounts were looked at, would somebody be able to see that a specific payment had been sent from one wallet to the another?

If you send them directly to each other then yes they would be able to look at the address history and see that you made a transaction from one place to another. They wouldn't necessarily be able to tell that it's you and they can't be sure you own both addresses unless they look at your data on both sites, but it is possible to guess if you have a history.

I have a feeling this is related to Coinbase and Bittrex.

Hi. Can somebody look at a bitcoin address and know which on line wallet service its linked to? So for example if I send a payment to my other wallet, and somebody checked my account history, saw the receiving bitcoin address, could they then look this bitcoin address up and find out which online wallet it is and which company it is?

Of course dude exchanges even count how many times you fart behind your computer, they can check out every thing and link you even to uncommitted crimes lol, that is where a mixer comes in and takes over, you send first to mixer and ask them to send to your other wallet with your own fee of choice.
Also mixers are miners as well themselves and they can mix and manipulate the coins by mining their own high fee transactions with hundreds of small outputs and then receive them all with block reward as one single output and there will be no more tracking possible.

I have been told that a bitcoin to bitcoin transaction is anonymous and impossible to trace between each other. Are you saying this is wrong then? So its very easy to link a bitcoin address to a specific online wallet. If I was to give you a receiving bitcoin address, would you be able to tell me which online service this address belonged to?

Not to me I'm no body and not a detective but there are actually some people in the forum dedicated their time and whole life by linking addresses and finding which belongs to which, so pretty yes you could figure out if you are stubborn and resourceful.

How would this be done? I thought it was literally impossible. So the only 100% full proof way is with a mixer? I wouldn't really trust these mixing services, heard about them before and heard about lots of people being scanned.

If you want to stay clear of experts/detectives and cover your tracks and break the links between your transactions yes only viable option is a mixer.

You are absolutely right about not trusting any mixer other than the trusted and well established ones such as obviously bitmixer not because I'm wearing their signature but because if they wanted to scam they could only gain so little comparing to what they are earning currently by being honest and trustworthy.
They are paying thousands of dollars weekly to signature participants, don't you think some one with 100BTC would first try one coin at a time to minimize the risk of getting scammed? and as most people mix their coins by doing several small amounts it doesn't make any sense for a high volume mixer to scam a few coins and deny themselves of future revenues.

You could send them only 10% for the first time to test it yourself as logic dictates to do so.

What I am talking about though is linking one online wallet to another online wallet through a bitcoin transaction.

If I login to my ONLINE WALLET A, and then I send a bitcoin transaction to ONLINE WALLET B wallet. Would these companies be able to look at the sending and receiving addresses and know which companies received and sent this transaction? If so, how would this be done?

Most of the time,it can really be traced when you do send bitcoin from wallet A to B yes its traceable but still anonymous because no one still knows whos holding behind on that wallet. If you are worried about that then you shouldn't.There are some online wallet (web wallets) cant be traced up just like on using exchange wallets because they are using one wallet and if you try to send btc to that wallet,it wont really show the origins wallet address. This is what I do observe.

We can say directly that we can trace or not .
Actually it all depends upon you that which wallet you use .
If you are using the official wallet of the bitcoin that is blockchain then you can see the address that always goes changes after one transaction so if you will send from.your wallet to the blockchain then Ofcourse no one will be able to trace your payment .
but if you are using the wallet that have single address ( doesn't change time to time and also dosen't change after transaction usual case of the mysellium , zebpay , xapo , coinbase ) Then I this case anyone can you easily .
But if you have one wallet that have variable address then you don't need to worry at all , Because no one can.trace you .

There is one site called https://www.walletexplorer.com/
You can use it to find out all the addresses linked to one wallet also it list all the deposit addresses created on different services.

Best way to remain anonymous is to use mixing services like bitmixer.io and cryptomixer.io, i have used both of them before without any problem. You can trust them, but beware of phising sites.

Definitely.

However, it'll be hard and will require both of the service providers to actually be able to come together and provide your personal information, something that violates their privacy policy, but obviously if government is involved, you're screwed basically.

Basically, don't use bitcoin in a way that'll get you to that stage. Also, if you are really paranoid, look into Monero or other anonymous altcoins like Dash. But the simplest solution is get a bitcoin client on your desktop that generates a new address everytime you receive a payment.

I am really sorry to disappoint the popular opinion by saying NO it cannot be linked together based on the example made above (coinbase and bittrex)

Your accounts can be linked together if they share the same wallet key and any funds that goes into one address will be added to the total balance on the main btc address that is what is called linked because any funds that goes into any of the address generate with similar key shall be added to the main total balance.

In the case of coinbase all account generated on 1 coinbase accounts are linked together because all funds in them are sum total of the main balance.

Bittrex on the other hand is an exchange site with over 1000 btc addresses and the total balance does not had up but personal.

When you send funds from coinbase to bittrex, your transactions cannot be traced unless some one actually knows that you own the btc address.

No this is wrong. The 'official' as you said wallet is not blockchain but the full node desktop wallet Bitcoin Core. Furthermore although it's a good practice to use new address for every transaction, also it is wrong that you are safe because bitcoin is not untraceable. There are ways somebody can find your wallet knowing only one address of it. As an example would you like to test it by your self using this site?

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't notice that someone two posts above my post had already said about the wallet explorer.
