Xapo wallet sucks. Stole $10 worth of Bitcoin until I provide all types of ID's

I strongly recommend avoiding Xapo website.

I used the site for $10 of affiliate income from Moonbitcoin and they won't allow me to log into my account until I provide my social security #, ID scans, bills and all types of shit.

Think twice before dealing with this shit site or any affiliates that only pay out via them.

KYC for under a $20 bill... no thanks.

I provided my information right before this OP and my account is still locked.  I will update this when I get access to my funds. (5-10-17)

Edit:  Account is now unlocked 5/15/2017.  I provided SS#, pictures, bills and all types of stuff.

I am using xapo wallets for a very long time and i never had an issue regarding the verification of IDs as they never asked me till now. I am not sure why you are forced to do so.Did they change the terms of use conditions to enforce the verification and if so i am not aware of it,like to see if anyone facing these issues other than you.

I have equally used Xapo and I have not had any issues with them and I am not sure they would want to rubbish their reputation because of that meagre amount of dollars in btc. The reason I could give for them I would say is largely due to the source of the bitcoin you are getting which is from referrals maybe for them to be sure that its not being abused and because its a promotional package, they would want to still expand that population base through getting more information from beneficiaries like you.

They're notorious for their terrible support.  It's probably not even worth your time to bother going through the complicated process of letting them verify your ID, you could work for ten times less time and earn that much.

I think xapo is not safe for now to use for a long time i have a bad experience of using their wallet and until now they are still not resolve the issue..
i am always use their wallet before when i was a collector of bitcoin from many xapo faucet.. but when i was trying to login they are asking for 2fa sending to my mobile number since the there is a time limit to type the code receiving my 2fa code from mobile is delay never login again because of delay sending the code to me.

So i think much better to use other wallet don't use online wallet for now like xapo try electrum or multibit hd wallet.

What? I did used them for sometime with an almost $100 worth of bitcoin there but I haven't experienced this type of disturbance from them.

What's the reason about it? This is unusual and this makes me want to avoid them because I don't want some inconvenience.

Xapo seems the most popular credit card, with an option to send bitcoins for free to others. But yes they ask for IDs thats my

1st reason why I am not using them
2nd is that they are online wallet which means that evventually they might get hacked in the future (I don't say that they will but still)
3rd while having your name they can easily conect to your bitcoin holdings

And don't just put affiliate links to earn, I mean always try to advertise the company that you love and where you love their services.

You agree to certain terms to which you have to conform with when using a service. What is the issue of providing ID to xapo? It is not that big of a hustle anyway.

Once we reached next level of transaction history (I faced this when I have completed $3k worth of bitocin transactions with them), they will not allow us to log on. I had to wait 2 to 4 days, after that I got email from them, mentioning my access was enabled.

Both xapo and coinbase have very strict, better to say bullshit KYC policy. They ask you lots of details to just store your bitcoin with them. I don't know why they even need our documents if we are not touching any fiat there.

For me electrum and jaxx works perfectly as bitcoin wallet.

Xapo, Coinbase or other centralized service/wallet/exchange is bound to respect official AML/KYC law. Which is borderline idiotic at times.
They might have other local rules like ban or freeze your account because they find out you are using their wallet to send money to gambling services.
Bitcoin was invented exactly to battle this kind of situation where you account can be suspended by 3rd party service.
The only online wallet I know which never banned/froze/suspended an account is blockchain.info

Same with me, it is 2nd year using xapo but they never asked me for KYC till this time but I do not hope they will ask me for it later. If they ask me to do KYC then I would prefer to stop using their service.

I thought i'm the only one who will think twice before uploading my identity to the internet even though for a trusted site. Well let me tell you about my story I was a xapo user I collected some bitcoins and save them out there mostly from faucet, and they locked my account I don't remember the reason why they locked my account i just felt that i didn't against their rules like gambling,scamming or something, Thanks God I didn't put all of my bitcoins out there, i should provide my identity to get my account back, no thanks xapo i'd never do that.

Thank you for the link, now I understand why I had my xapo account got locked but I refused to submit them my documents as I was not having any balances with them when they started denying access to my wallet. (I just opened another wallet and used).

I guess it would be good for people to check the TOS before starting opening accounts with them. At least they should show some important TOSs while signing up with them. That will definitely prevent many hassles.

Strange thing. Bitcoin amount, worth few thousand bucks cirulated on my Xapo account and they haven't asked my ID, bills, proof of address and etc. And now they as for all these details for just ten bucks recrived from faucet. Shame.

It's better to avoid centralized services related to BTC here on the internet. First, they want to make you believe their service is very good, you have advantages when using it (no fees on transactions), but next, they start showing their real face. You need to start paying for transactions, you need to send them your personal informations... That is what happened until now, let's see what happens in the future.

I have earned $10 of bitcoins through MoonBitcoin affiliate program and they are asking me all the top tier questions before I have access to my $10.

I understood what I was signing up for... what I don't understand is why they aren't following their own terms and freezing access to my funds.



I was not given the option to close my account and withdraw my funds either.

Nobody can be sure sites as big as Xapo are not selling your information. Unless you are making a transaction with Xapo themselves, KYC would not be necessary. Coinbase asks for information when buying and selling Bitcoins, but not when using the service as a wallet.

This reminds everyone that exchanges are not a wallet. Storing money in any type of exchange is asking for bad news. I'm going to follow up on this thread to see if Xapo will (slowly) but eventually release the held money.
