running psu full load?

Hi, I have an 850W certified gold PSU. It's running between 840-850Watts. Is it ok to run it at it's load? How long will it last? Or should I lower my cards?

850Watts measured where? From the wall? Then it is only delivering ~765Watts to the system, well under its designed full load.

If it is rated to run 850Watts continuous, it can do 850watts continuous, although it might not last as long as it would under softer conditions, it should still run for years.

Your just going to end up cooking the PSU faster.. Running it at 85% load 99% of the time will kill it about 2x as fast if you had it running at 50% 99% of the time. Just run it how it is and start putting money aside for when it fails. That way you wont have to think about it.

PS is something that you should always get the absolute best. I always get platnum rated 1000w even if the system only needs 700w.

It's fine to run full load in a  cool, well-ventilated room. 

Don't push it if your place is warm and stuffy, because heat increases electrical resistance.

Brand also matters.  Antec, Corsair, or Dell?  Good to go!

If the power supply says it is rated for continuous 850 watt, it is good for 850 watt DC electricity 24/7/365, otherwise it wouldn't be called "continuous".

An 850W 80plus GOLD power supply is 100% spec when you are drawing approximately 965 watts at the wall. You are fine. For what its worth, I drew 910 watts AC from a NZXT HALE90 750 watt, approx 8% over spec. It didn't break a sweat.

Some manufacturers overrate the components, others are just bottom feeding scum that use industry terms to scam people.
Also 'Continuous' is a relative term and depends on the background ambient....

anyway, i've had 750w seasonics running at around 700w for 9 months
