I went to look at the video but my NoScript filled the screen top-to-bottom with other site links.

I might check it out later on my write-protected usb linux boot.

Udemy is a respected MOOC site. They are pretty tightly integrated with facebook and thus drive NoScript nuts. No worries mate

I listened to the first two lectures and skimmed the rest. Overall, I think the quality is excellent, though I have some comments and suggestions for the first two lessons.

  • Bitcoin is primarily a payment system. I feel that was under-emphasized in your lecture. The utility of the currency (and therefore the source of its value) is derived from the benefits of this payment system, so it is important to discuss this.
  • A wallet does not have an address -- it contains one or more addresses. This distinction is a major source of confusion for newbies.
  • A wallet does not actually hold bitcoins. This is not a major misconception, except that it is not clear that it is important to back up a wallet before any coins are sent to it.
  • Bitcoin-qt is not an easy wallet to use. I don't recommend it for newbies. One reason is that it can take several days to sync the wallet on a laptop. The second reason is that it is not all that user-friendly. I think that the online wallets are the best for newbies.
  • You misspelled "Casascius".
  • You might have mentioned that specific Casascius coins on Ebay that your were showing are so expensive because they are collector's items. Normally, Casascius coins are between 1.3 and 1.6 BTC.
  • I am very happy that you didn't mention mining in your list of how to obtain bitcoins.
  • The danger of mistyping a Bitcoin addresses is very low. A mistyped address is very likely to be rejected because it has a built-in checksum.

Great course. Very impressed. I was very wary when it asked at the start "Can I send something to all your fb friends" (or similar words), but thankfully that was skippable, and the actual course is a great explanation.

Like someone said earlier though, if you introduce a typo into a bitcoin address, it is highly unlikely to be accepted by the software as a destination address. I only know this because I asked about it on these forums because it was something I was very curious about. Another big plus for bitcoins as people do often "muck up" addresses even when primarily using copy/paste.

Great job though  Smiley

I am aware about the address verification scheme. I believe the chance of a bad address getting through is about 4 billion to 1. I'm going to redo the core lecture series soon with some major improvements, clarifications, corrections and new content.
