This is weird but its the 3rd times this has happened to me. Multibit locks me out of my wallet every time I shut down the program. Once I try to login to my wallet it keeps saying my password is wrong. This is weird because I dont have down syndrome and I can remember my passwords. I'm now down $75 and want to murder someone. Can someone please tell my why this does this, or how to fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have currently the same problem. I'm 100% sure of what was my password. Anyone knows what's happening ?

EDIT : maybe a solution here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1906575.0

I have a similar problem, at first I fixed it by downgrading to 0.4.1 but it started again. What I found helpful is restoring your wallet with your seed and choosing some old backup, you will be able to open your wallet but have to resync, which is also bugged and sometimes gets stuck, but eventually you will be able to get acess. But you might encounter another problem - unconfirmed transactions when you try to send coins.

FYI, if it is a MultiBit HD wallet and you have your seed... and you have an Android or iPhone, you can install BreadWallet and restore your wallet there to access your funds until the MultiBit devs release an update to fix this issue.

If you don't have your seed, but you have your wallet and wallet password... you can use decrypt_bitcoinj_seed.pyw by gurnec to recover your seed, then restore to BreadWallet...

Finally, if you have a MultiBit Classic wallet and know your wallet password (or you have a MultiBit HD wallet, know your password and can't use BreadWallet)... I have written some python scripts based on gurnec's, that will allow you to extract your private keys either from a MultiBit HD "wallet file", a MB Classic "Key Backup" file or a MB Classic "wallet file"...

Hello, is there a also version for MacOS please?
Of breadwallet or the python scripts?

BreadWallet is a mobile app for Android or iOS... They don't have a desktop version... and no desktop wallets that I know of work with MultiBit HD recovery seeds Sad

Python is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OSX: https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-2713/

I have only tested my python scripts on Windows, because that is all I have and I can't be arsed setting up a VM with Linux and/or Mac OSX... so it may or may not work on Linux or Mac OSX.

ps. If someone wants to donate some bitcoins, I'll go buy a macbook Grin

Sure I would gladly donate some BTC to you if you can help me recover my seeds, and get my bitcoin from Multibit HD. I have the same issue as most of other guys "the password did not unlock your wallet"  Embarrassed

Please do all your tests in a virtual machine without internet. No offense HCP, but I've already seen people trying to recover money, installing all 3rd party they could from all the sources they found and the result was a total loss of their money.

So again: please do all this in a virtual machine without internet. Oracle VirtualBox is available for all major OSes, or there are small linux distributions you can use. It's for your own safety.

I am suddenly having the same problem.
1. I am 100% sure of the password
2. I get the error that the password did not unlock the wallet
3. I recreate the wallet on a different PC. It works a couple times, but then starts saying that the password did not unlock the wallet.
4. I created a new wallet that worked at first and it's now happening to this new wallet as well.

I am only having this issue on wallets that were created After April 1, 2017.

Update on May 31:
RESOLUTION: Whenever I restored the wallet, it would become corrupt and I couldn't log in.
So when I restored the wallet on a new VirtualBox with a new Multibit HD, I exited during the sync and then logged in. After the wallet synced, I knew I could no longer log in, so I moved the coins to another wallet before I logged out.
POSSIBLE CAUSE: I believe the cause was that the wallets were corrupting due to a VirtualBox Linux that was competing for the same internet connection (Bridged or NAT).

Did you try the suggested solutions?

- Install breadwallet on iOS or Android device (if breadwallet doesn't work on your Android, try "Simple Bitcoin Wallet").
- Restore your MultiBit HD seed and wait for it to sync up... you'll have access to your coins and can move them to another wallet (like Electrum)

If you cannot use Breadwallet or Simple Bitcoin Wallet... then your options are:

1. wait for devs to fix the bug

or

2. use my python scripts to extract your keys with UTXOs and sweep (or import) those private keys to another wallet (like Electrum)... as mentioned by NeuroticFish, using a VirtualMachine with no network access is a good idea for added security while doing this.

In other news, I've tested my scripts with Linux and MacOSX now Wink

or

3. Do it the long way and create an offline version of https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/

Then put your MultiBit HD seed in where it says Mnemonic Code... Under Derivation Path, select BIP32 and then client = "Custom" and set the path to m/0'/0 and copy all the addresses and keys (you may need to click show more to find all your addresses with coins)... then also set the path to m/0'/1 and find all your change addresses and keys that have coins. Import those keys to another wallet.
