Dear BTC hero's,

I am having questions about BTC mining.

A few years ago, about 5 now i was started LTC mining with my GPU/CPU from my pc. And a year later i quited and did nothing anymore with BTC/LTC.
Now 5 years later i want to start mining again. But hearing it is totaly not worth anymore to mine with GUIMINER (CPU/GPU) i was wondering what is a better solution than?

Asic miners are they still profitable like in the early years or not?

Who can help me out here, i have opened a new wallet at https://blockchain.info/nl/wallet/#/signup and i am now at http://www.bitcoin.de watching the value of BTC.

BTC/LTC mining these days are only practical with ASICs.

Profitability is definitely less than a few years ago but still decent if you have cheap power.

So what do you want to do??

Customizable full-featured crypto trading platform in development. Asking for demo if interested.

It has because less and less profitable as you suspected.
GUIminer is a thing of the past, you'll have to go with a very efficient ASIC.

If you can get your hands on one for a decent price and have a low electricity cost, you should be able to turn a profit.
Keep in mind most people can't, even with the current prices.

Depending on your energy cost, if it is lower than 0.10 kw in an hour buying an ASIC miner like S9 Antminer it is still profitable. Or you can build a computer and a board that supports multi graphic cards with a lot of PCIEX slots and with that energy cost it should be profitable if you buy RX Series graphic cards from AMD.

BTC mining definitely is only pratical with ASICS
LTC and the rest of altcoins though can be mined with GPUs with a better ROI than BTC
the best idea is to assemble a 4-5 gpu rig and mine ,achieve ROI and sell gpus at 70-80% of their face value(or continue mining, depends on your profit)

You missed so much in those 5 years OP. I feel the same as I should have bought more when I had the chance.
The miners are still profitable, a bit less than the first asics, but you can still get a nice return. The problem is the cost of each unit and its power consumption. While years ago you could buy a cheap Asic, that consumed ~300W and costed a few hundred USD, like antminer S1, now you're forced to buy a machine that needs 3 times that and costs much more. Home mining or hobby mining is a thing of the past.

You'll want to check out the service Nicehash, which lets you buy and sell hashrate for different mining algorithms and convert it to Bitcoin.  If you're mining with your GPU, that might be a good choice.

SHA-256 ASICs are very developed and the Antminer S9, for example, is very popular right now.

Scrypt ASICs aren't fully developed.  There are developing ones like the L3+, but you can expect the difficulty to rise a lot and your ROI won't be as quick as you thought at first.
