Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

actually it is both, and right now with 156,000 transactions in mempool, they are mostly spam attack.
obviously the number of users has grown a lot in the past few years and the past month's price rise and things like Japan has brought a lot more on board.

but you can not deny existence of things like these:
