                                                                                          SolarCoin

SolarCoin is an alternative digital currency with a built-in mechanism to incentivize the generation of global solar electricity.

So far there are about 1,000 to 1,500 claimants i believe. As of 5-21-17

How much do you think a Megawatt hour of solar electricity is worth? Not a few cents for sure - add a few bucks on that 0.20$ price right now and we can talk Wink

$20 to $30 it would be worth if it was at par with a Megawatt hour.

Yeah considering the fact we can datalog solar generation into the SLR blockchain, its value is even higher than the MWh value as well, the scope for that data (which no-one else has) to become exremely valuable to scientists, grid operators, you name it.

Thanks for bringing this to notice. Didn't even know a coin like this exists! I'm tempted to buy 'cos the potentials look great.

It looks like the cap is already high.

Compared to what???

The solarcoin cap is currently around $6 million, but that is just pocket change compared to the bitcoin cap of over $28 billion. Even litecoin has a cap of more than $1 billion. So a cap of $6 million is quite small. When this coin hits a cap of $60 million, then you'll be kicking yourself for not getting in the market sooner...

I've got a few solar panels and didn't even know about this project. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'm going to have to look at this coin a little bit closer, but it looks like it may have a little bit of room to grow. Also, the fact that you can get free coins if you have verified your solar production is pretty neat.

You can also claim your coins all the way back to 2010 I believe.

Oh really? I didn't see anything about that on their site. Definitely going to have to look into it. The panels are already making me a bit of bitcoins, it's gonna be really sweet if I can get a bit more out of them just by having them.
