Hi everyone. Was wondering if you could help me with trying to mine LTC?
I am able to mine BTC fine but I just can't seem to get LTC working with cgminer Sad

Here is my config:

cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum.us.give-me-ltc.com:3333 -u worker.1 -p password --intensity 10 --shaders 2048 --worksize 256 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-threads 2

I always get a windows message box saying cgminer.exe has stopped working.

I tried cgminer --benchmark and it worked fine but when I try cgminer --benchmark --scrypt it errors with a windows message box saying cgminer.exe has stopped working.
It seems as if --scrypt is causing it to crash Sad

If I try cgminer --scrypt --verbose I still get the same error after entering the password.

Code:
 [2013-04-29 18:44:57] Started cgminer 3.1.0

Any idea?  Using a 7970 on Windows 8 x64 with cgminer 3.1.0 (also tried 3.0.1). Driver version 9.14.10.0969. Catalyst 13.4

It's your drivers. Revert back to 13.1, and you should be all set.

Thanks for the suggestion. Uninstalled 13.4 and installed 13.1 but that did not work.

Now BTC mining causes the same error.  Cry

Even cgminer --benchmark is causing the error now.

Going to try reinstalling W8 from scratch only using the 13.1 drivers.

Question: Is AMD-APP-SDK-v2.8-Windows-64 required for scrypt mining?

Scrypt was working for me with 13.1, but was crashing CGMiner when compiling the scrypte kernel after I updated to 13.4.

You don't actually need the SDKs anymore, as the drivers come with an OpenCL runtime now. Any SDK after 2.6 is needed for scrypt, which is basically any driver in 2012 or 2013.

Thanks. I was going to install AMD-APP-SDK-v2.7-Windows-64 since I read that 2.8 had problems but if the SDK is no longer needed I will skip it.

Thank you for your help!

Reloading W8 only using v3.1 did the trick.  Grin

cgminer is crashing upon start.
GPU-z cannot detect OpenCL.

This happened when I remove driver 13.4 and back to 13.1.
It was working fien on 13.4.
Reason I downgrade to 13.1 is b/c I have a GPU that is not stable, and wonder if is driver version problem.

Thank you for the tip about 13.1, I was pulling my hair out and ended up having to reinstall Windows to get the version right, but that did the trick.

I have this problem as well and today tried to resolve it again. I have no ideas left. If anyone has any idea (short of reinstalling my OS) I'd appreciate any advise Smiley

Hey, I had the same issue with my two hd7970s today with Windows 7 x64.  The fix for me was changing the tc to a lower number, but it looks like yours is already the lowest you should go, maybe try setting the memclock and engine?  When I had this issue, I just started dialing back and changing settings until it worked again.

Also, it seems that some of the settings will only work with a single value for two gpus instead of individually setting them.

Hope this helps Wink

I also use windows 7 64 bit but only one 6850 HD. What do you mean with TC?

Edit:

BTW, during install it always reports an error for the AMD APP SDK runtime. Also if I uninstall first. The amount of information it reports is very limited though:

AMD APP SDK Runtime
Final Status: Fail
Version of Item: 10.0.1084.4

tc = Thread concurrency.  I usually run my cards around 12288 as hd7970s can be dialed up more.  Haven't worked with any 6850s so I don't know what the capabilities of that card are.

Have you disabled Overdrive?  (assuming your using the Catalyst Control Center).  I've had some issues with overdrive enabled while running cgminer.

If that doesn't work, maybe try running cgminer with no options.  If that works add one option back at a time until you find the culprit.

My system has Catalyst 13.4 and a fresh OS install as of yesterday so I'm hesitant to think that it would be the drivers since cgminer is running for me.

I fucked up. I ran Driversweeper (it was supposed to remove all the ATI drivers), rebooted and now I cannot boot into windows anymore (I get a blue screen of death after the login screen shows for a second or so).

When I boot into safe mode I cannot, uninstall or reinstall Catalyst because it gives the error message "Failed to load detection driver". Driversweeper must have deleted some dlls I need and of course I don't have a restore point. Damn it...

Okay, thank god Driversweeper made backups of the dlls somewhere (including where they were removed from). The automatic restoration didn't work so I had to put them all back manually. I'm back in my OS though.

Suffice to say I'm done for the night. Don't think I'll ever get that Scrypt mining working (I tried before).

I have the same problem with cgminer crashing with the --scrypt flag and 13-4 drivers.
With 13-4 drivers you do not need any sdk for opencl.

For those that want to change their driver in a clean manner without reinstalling a new os just use this wonderful tool :

I had this issue before and it drove me crazy, reverted to several different driver and SDK versions. What solved it? Reinstalling Windows, installing 13.1 drivers and SDK 2.5 on the fresh load and not much else.

On another computer (as strange as this sounds) I had the same issue with drivers crashing after installing .NET 4

If GPU-Z can't see that OpenCL support is enabled, then it isn't going to work.

I had crashing problems with cgminer after setting the following environment variables:

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

I had to remove the second (use_sync_objects) and remove it from the registry, too (under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment) and it worked!

BTW the first one (max_alloc_percent) is recommended to be able to use high thread-concurrency values.

That's strange. I use the setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1 setting and it works fine for me. What does this one do?

cgminer has an excelent UI, but inside is a POS with no proper error handling.
