I changed my signature awhile ago to help promote the projects I work on. However, recently I've begun to feel like the background colors might be too annoying. I don't know if there is any kind of signature etiquette around here? Are you more likely to ignore it if it's too obnoxious? What can I do to improve it while still displaying my projects?
I would ignore the message for being non-new once I had already read it and determined I had no immediate interest to pursue logo design, webcam girls, or new soap, even if it didn't have those colors. Though, the soap is pretty cool.
I don't find them obnoxious to the point I'd ever complain. I'd find it annoying if the font size was big, but it's not.
It reminds me of a few Chinese restaurants in town that set their "OPEN" signs to blink. When I see an "OPEN" sign blinking, it makes me wonder if they set it to blink on purpose because they think that if the sign isn't blinking, I won't want to eat there because I will mistakenly think the restaurant is closed, even in the middle of mealtime hours. Or perhaps that I won't notice that there's a restaurant there, save but for the blinking open sign. It's not a crime, and it's not annoying, it's just not my personal preference. It's just unelegant, if I had to be asked how to describe it. I do so many unelegant things myself though (like dress like a geek because I am one), so it's not like I have room to complain or anything. It is entirely possible that in Chinese culture, the blinking sign is viewed as attractive on its own merits, which would serve as a possible reason that I observe this disproportionately in Chinese restaurants.
