BEST HARD DRIVE FOR BURST COIN MINING.

I am planning the start Burstcoin Mining. everything else is ready but need some advise on HDD purchase. I would prefere 8TB internal HDD. I am look for economical 80TB i.e 8TBX10 HDD. LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS.

4tb drives with no complicated tech are the best value for money in terms of dada/$ at the moment. If you're looking for a bang for your buch you should be looking at series like WD blue and  Seagate BarraCuda, 4TB of which retails close to 100€.

last time i checked, burstcoin mining wasnt (that) profitable, storj (and maybe sia) offer far better revenues, but currently (at least for storj) it takes quite some time to fill it up, so i assume in like 1-2yrs you can fill up your hdds much faster and actually use storj as mining alternative for hdds

question, what is the use of bandwidth?
because a 4TB hdd costs little, and uses almost no power, 6 month roi is nothing, but the real ticker is, how much bandwidth in/out it uses.

i have a shitty 3 M down / 0.5 M up that's why (south america, crappiest ISP ever)

there is no need to do that because a hdd consume 5 watt, basically there is zero electricity cost or very minimila, like $10 per month if you have many

only capacity not speed, i hope they release a version of burst that rely on speed instead, would be better than plotting your hard drive

 Archive drives are designed to be written to rarely, read from a lot more - which is exactly how BURST works as you plot ONCE then read lots of times.

 They are also THE lowest $/TB of any drive type on the market.

 Amazing how they fit your "if I where (sic) you" line perfectly yet you deride them.

the problem with SMR drives is the low write speed of optimized plots, and as you want a single plot file per disk you would either need a pmr 8tb disk or wait for your disk to finish writing with 7mb-ish (sometimes spikes to 30 mb for a few secs) or write unoptimized plots and optimize them on another drive seperately

i'd guesstimate about 12-14 days at least to generate a 8tb optimized plot on smr directly

also at least for me in EU the 8tb smr seagates are more expensive than some other drives (8tb smr being at about 28€/tb, others as low as 24€/tb), in the end it comes down to density (similar to nvidia vs amd setups)

 Electric cost on a hard drive is trivial. I can't think of one I've seen that ate 10 watts for a while, and can't remember the last one I saw that ate 15.


 I'm sure the SMR drives plot slowly - but you only have to plot ONCE, and you don't have to plot the entire drive as a single plot file.
 I'll speak with more authority about that in a couple weeks, I've got an Archive on order but it doesn't show up 'till next week - probably going to put it in a new system build, but I might put it in one of my older existing systems instead.


 I do agree with "go for the lowest cost per TB" though - and Europe prices seem to be real spotty compared to US pricing, probably due to less competiton and higher pricing in part due to the VAT that many (most or all?) EU countries seem to love.

Does anyone have an approximate idea of how long it would take to plot 40 TB (5900rpm) with a Phenom II x4 820? or a GTX 460 1GB?  (old hardware sitting in the closet :p ) --- I do have a spare Rx 480 4GB that I can put in there until the plotting is done if I absolutely have to. Thanks!

Use the 480 - your GTX 460 is lower performance by a lot vs my HD 7750, which was barely faster than 3 cores on my A10-5700.

 Your FX should be close to the CPU side of my A10-5700 - which was managing somewhat in excess of 1 but less than 2 TB a day with an AVX plotter on 3 cores.

 RX 480 should be limited by the speed of the drives themselves.
