I believe they use different seed formats but not 100% sure on that. Your best bet is to create a new wallet in Electrum and send the funds from your old MutlibitHD wallet to your new Electrum wallet.

a standard MultiBit HD wallet is BIP32 compatible although they have had some bugs with their compatibility with other implementations.
try importing your seed in Electrum and see if it understands it (i have never tried it so i can not confirm). if it did then you are good to go.

you can always use this https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/a/49428 (save a copy and use it offline) to get the private keys from your seed and then import them into Electrum.

but the best course of action is generating a new wallet in electrum and transferring funds from your old wallet to this new wallet by spending them (send from old to new).

I don't think bip32 means much as far inter-wallet compatibility.   it is more 'under the hood' stuff like KDF.  I believe electrum uses its own mnemonic scheme.

Electrum does indeed use it's own mnemonic scheme that is pretty much incompatible with everything Sad

However, Electrum will allow you to import a BIP39 Seed (if you select it from the Options during seed input)... But it will only generate the correct addresses if the wallet you are importing from uses a m/44'/0'/0'/0 type (aka BIP44) derivation path (like Mycelium). This means that Electrum will happily accept the MultiBit HD seed if you try and restore... but the addresses and keys will be different because MultiBit HD uses m/0'/0 Sad

The only wallet I know of that will properly import MultiBit HD seed (now that Hive is no longer operational) is Breadwallet... which is only on Android or iOS.

To switch from MultiBit HD to Electrum, just do what Kolloh originally suggested, create a new Electrum wallet and then send all your coins from MultiBit HD to Electrum.
