Better build a rx 480 rig for eth or 1070 rig for zcash?

Considering that eth goes by pos soon

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

I am not into mining yet, so don't take my talk seriously. As of my in-depth readings on the mining board, I would suggest you RX470 4GB instead of RX480 8GB – it's better for ETH (RX480 is more powerful, but not enough — they are almost the same — for mining to justify the higher price). It's the most preferred GPU on the mining board (everyone is praising how good it is).

There are lots of calculators online that will estimate GPU profit for you. Heres one: https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc

But if you're looking for personal experience/input, i'll second the RX470 4GB.

I would suggest you RX470 4GB instead of RX480 8GB

It seems to be the most profitable atm because of it's hash-rate/power-consumption ratio. Its low power but chugs out almost the same hash rate as an RX480.

To be honest, I believe that there is no "best" of gpu.
One is always better than the other. And tomorrow, there will be a better one than what I have today.
AMD is by far the most versatile over the entire gamma of different algos.
Nvidia are just plain good cards to work with and play with.
As the software developers make the new miners, it really depends on one thing...what card does the dev have?
Here is a great way to calculate -

AMD for mining and Nvida for gaming. end of this is how its always been and how it always will be.

AMD more and simple cores are better

Nvidia Smarter but fewer cores

plus AMD are alway way way WAYYYY cheaper, and iv been around since mining on CPU's was a thing XD

nVidia is getting famous fast in mining most of new comers now prefer to build a nVidia rig than amd , most of it because as you said eth may turn pos and nVidia has plenty of algos to work for now than before , also nVidia has better resell value

PoS means Proof of Stake, rather then PoW which is Proof of Work. PoS is generally a bad thing for miners profits and PoW is the preferred way for mining. Ethereum is currently PoW but will eventually switch to PoS.

I think there is no such thing as "best GPU. It depends only on you, which one do you prefer and why, price, hashrate, cooling etc.
Unless you can try out by yourself you can't tell either and everyone will give you the advice depending on their own experience.

RX 470 or 570 for ethash (ethereum)

although 570 requires voltage offset to reduce power draw to equal that of a 470

1070, 1080, 1080 ti for equihash (zec)

They all get about the same hash per watt

so whatever you can get the best deal on

Would be impossible to say if the amd or nvidia cards will be better in the long run, way to many variables. I think they will be about even.

So make a rig of each  Grin

i agree with this make one of each

but hold off itll vega hits before you drop big dollars on nvidia

i would not mine zcash with nvidia, feathercoin and lbry are much better, for the other part i agree with you, but the 1080ti is not very good while it has a good hashrate it cost too much compared to 1070

That is right. The nVidia cards are more efficient.

You should check your profitability again...Feathercoin/Nescrypt and lbry are way down my list of coins to mine with Nvidia.

I'm finding blake2s, skein, equihash and Nist5 are the best at the moment, but it is always a moving target Cheesy

blakes2s could be skein, the profit is actually lower than what it say on yiimp, equihash is worse than lbry i don't know what you are mining but hush and zcash are behind lbry and feathercoin at the moment, nist5 i'm not aware of any good coin for that algo, are you talking about new one?

Check out zpool.ca Cheesy

The stats on yiimp and zpool on the right of the page don't actually show you the most profitable because your card/s don't get exactly 1 MH/day on all coins.
It varies greatly, so you need to really take those figures and then add your card hash rates to determine the most profitable coins.

Nist5 = solaris
blake2s = Verge, Taj, Netko, Neva
skein = aurora, digibyte, unitus

zpool pay 30% less than what it say not good for mining, but yiimp show that skein and nist5 are the same they give you 250k satoshi with one 1070, which is better than lbry yes, but lbry is still betetr than zcash that what i said in the beginning
