I am running bitcoind on ubuntu linux but my / partition is only 12 gig in size and since i began syncing bitcoind for the first time my / directory is almost full.

Where is bitcoin storing files on my root directory? i need to move and symlink them somewhere else for syncing to complete.

Could temporary files be responsible? I have restarted my computer in the hope it would erase them if this is the case but no extra free space is present after reboot.

Please help Sad

UPDATE:
Just got error printed to standard out 'Bitcoin: Warning: Disk space is low' then it exited.

All suggestions appreciated.

*SOLVED
It was my stupid mistake, i installed my OS into my 12gig root partition and symlinked all my folders to the 2nd partition called FILES in case my os partition broke i would always have my data seperated. the bitcoin folder IS located  on my / partition after all but its been so long I just forgot.

Silly me :p
