You need to take profits at some point, if you don't your portfolio will just go up and down.

Try not to sell anything on red, and realize some profits.

prevention is better than cure!
in other words dump before getting dumped on.

it is very simple, most people who lose money are losing it because they hold altcoins for too long. they all know what's coming to them but yet they still hold on to their altcoins tight because they have fallen for the hype.

of course this partly comes from people being greedy and not satisfied with a small profit and want the most.

just take a small profit and sell! when prices start to fall it is not easy to keep your cool. specially if you have a big amount on the line not something like 0.01BTC! and the bigger the investment the bigger the stress and harder it would be to control. so just don't let yourself to get to that stage.

It meaning cut loss, never easy but have to be done. Keep calm and don't lose control, is better than hold too long. Try to take another altcoin for a new trade and strategy, so your plan keeps spinning and grow. Most people will leave this altcoin ( make your loss ) for temporary until they find the best moment to start again, never give up because of cut loss and keep trying. Realize the risk and deal it. Good luck

I bought TRICK and AL at the rate of BTC 0.004500 and BTC 0.000199 respectively some 3-4 weeks ago. They got dumped and left with price equal to BTC = 0.0000001 that is just for their own existence. I have got like 5000 AL and 1000 TRICK's on my account. The amount is too much and I'm patient about it. I want them to increase anyway. The first thing I keep in my mind is that, they are already in loss and can not cause me more loss than this. Secondly the money I have invested in them are not in use by me as I have traded only the money that I don't want for my immediate use. So these two things motivates me to keep the patience and wait for that rise to happen.  Cheesy

I'm dividing my positions with any altcoin up to 5% of my total trading roll. Usually ~3%.
In case of dump, this allows me to not panic, but wait. It the coin hit the ground, count it as a loss an continue. But 3%-5% loss are not so painful for acceptance. In such case I'm just doing re-analyze why I bought the coin at the first place and then what happens before the dump.

I would say it depends on your trading strategy. If you are looking for short term moves on coins that have very little true value/innovations, you should set hard buy/sell limit orders to capitalize on profit and limit losses to try and take as much emotion out of the trade as possible.

If you are invested in a coin with good long term potential, enter small positions on dips and downturns to cost average your overall portfolio if you believe in the prospective future. Dont buy all at once though, leave some capital to purchase if and when there is blood in the streets Smiley

There are few things you have to keep in mind to minimize your losses in altcoin trading;

1. Don't invest all of your bitcoin in altcoins, keep some bitcoin to buy few alts when they get massive dumps.
2. Don't sell on small price correction being panic
3. Don't Buy when some alts are pumping and are at peak price.
4. Don't put all your eggs in same basket.

Seeing greens on your portfolio does really contribute some good feelings and motivations on trading but seeing them on red does really make us panic or confused on what should we do in able to cope up those negatives and if the times that you cant already handle it then you will surely panic sell thinking off on cutting your loses which isnt really ideal anytime we do make trades.Instead of panic selling better to hold it of and dont ever to sell on reds.

I did. Bought an alt for 2 sats before and tried to wait for it to come back to its real price but never happened.
Altcoin investing is really about patience specially to those who just started after the ICO and are still advertising their coins here or outside. Better wait or if there will be a true news about them that it is coming to an end maybe that is the time you can somehow get the ROI.

use stop loss to prevent things like that. make decisions first then set the numbers so if and when price dropped your sell orders are placed automatically and without you needing to worry about losing your head and getting emotional Smiley

The best thing is if the alts you have go up, sell enough always to cover your initial capital cost for that alt, then you can hold long with ease if you know and have confidence in the coin or token. Panic selling is never a good thing. Initial profit taking is what you need to focus on and long term big profits.

I keep my self motivated by remembering the plan of the team for that coin and their projects that already have been done and i also look for the long term chart so i can see a great view for my coins. If ever there is a dump, i just buy them and i didn't sell my coins because i will rather hold them for long term than cutting losses and selling them.

If you know the rule of the games in coins market then you should not panic most at times. Panic is what cost loses. I got an advise from expert traders that, there is no death coins! That every coin has a cycle face and up and down. It depends when you enter into a trade or at which point you add the coin to your portfolio that determine if your will loses or succeeded.

Well before jumping in to the trading of the alts I had accepted that such things can happen to my investments or the portfolio so I have made myself ready for any loss. Everyone while coming to the trading comes with the aim to earn but to be calm you have to make your mind that in trading you can face situations and the same I was and it helped me to wait for the right time.

Well yeah this is a great idea to put you to a safe side. What all you need is to accept the loss in the trade. This will help you to go for a wrong decision further. I think everyone should study before they decide to come to trade to attend several trainings of self-control i.e. how to deal with your emotions when things are not favorable.

When portfolio goes down, I am on alert of it. If it continues and there are negative news about it, I will slowly unload my  holdings so that to minimize further  losses.Sometimes I buy back again at lower price Smiley  But as of now, most of the Eth contract Token are doing good.

That is also a good strategy, sell low buy lower. Which is another type of strategy in trading and in fact, i'm using that method also because if i sell low and buy lower. I can buy more quantity of the coin and i will have more chance to get a high profits when the pump occurs, But if my altcoins are legit like ethereum, i will not sell those and just continue holding.

loss will always be a part of trading, so you need to accept it and plan ahead. many use tools and features the exchanges offer such as stop loss to prevent big losses in case of big dumps but in altcoin trading the stop loss can be a bit tricky because the fluctuations are usually big and finding the price to place the stop loss at is hard. to this day i have not figured out the perfect method to do this for altcoins!
so i usually dump altcoins sooner than the end. this helps me make the profit and get out while almost eliminating any chance of my portfolio going down.

Good strategy to minimized lost. But I guess we all have to be alert and vigilant because the price movement is really unpredictable. I read one article about it saying before he go to sleep all the price where find but the next day bitfinex was hacked pulling btc price to go down very fast and the guy lost a lot. And also invest what we can afford to lose.
