What is powertune value in cgminer?
what it stands for? what it sets?
I am running my 5970 and 5850 without this value and not going to change it since I got very good hashrates.
Currently ordered 4 x 7950 and after lurking for some good settings and advices I've noticed that folks use --gpu-powertune command.
how it affects gpu's? is it safe in electric (voltage) way?

Powertune isn't available for 5xxx cards, so it won't do anything to your hashrate. On 6xxx and newer, Powertune is sort of a way to raise the TDP of a card. It may or may not draw more power at +20%, but you're at least giving it the option to draw as much power as it wants without throttling. If you're looking for power savings, -20% may or may not save you some juice, and if it does, it's most likely thru throttling.

For BTC mining, it's almost never an issue. For LTC mining, many people need to increase the Powertune if they are Overclocking the RAM and the Core.

allow the graphic card to draw more power, beware..

So essentially what it does is allow the GPU to draw extra power, in the hopes it will allow it the freedom to produce a higher hash rate?

I'm guessing this will be at the expense of increased heat?

It's going to be so funny to look back on all this confusion going on at the start of these coins.  No?

yes, when it draw more power it also produce more heat .

Well, I never got a chance to test it out... 

My 120kh/s miner died    (Taps softly plays)

The good news is that it allowed me to mine almost $100 in coin.  Half of which is invested in SCRYPT.CC?ref=baagt and earning me my first 'real' passive income.  61kh/s is earning me at this very minute...

Total Investment: 0.09454939 BTC ($49.73 USD)

Daily Income: 0.00046609 BTC ($0.25 USD)
Monthly Income: 0.01444879 BTC ($7.75 USD)

Break Even In: 199 Days.

The output changes every minute as the profitability of coins being mined changes.  I've seen it as low as 160 days today and other report seeing 140 at times.  Max I've heard people seeing is around 250 days.
