Help running a core node on macbook pro

Hi any help here would be appreciated.

I have a 2012 model macbook pro on which I (try) to run a full node signalling BIP148.

I store the data on an external hard drive.

I have the dbcache set to 1024MB, and the number of threads set to 7.

After about 4 minutes, the GUI starts to freeze for about 95% of the time. The synchronization with the network becomes unbearably slow, and I basically have to restart the node.

I consistently have 8 connections to the network.

Any help would be appreciated, later today I plan to set up a node on a RPi 3.

edit: in the activity monitor, I can see that is stops using any CPU when it freezes.

How much RAM do you have in that machine? I suggest lowering the dbcache since I think you are running out of RAM.

Hi thanks for responding. (Think we've been chatting in UASF slack).

Turned out that it was the use of my external drive that was causing the issue. It behaves correctly when I use the internal drive of my laptop.

Now I'm working out how to use linux+RPi to get a node set up on there. The headache has already begun
