Hello everyone,

New to the forum as you might notice and I've been feverishly reading many threads and researching as much as I can the last while on various alt-coins. I've come up with a list of coins that appear to have interest from the community and come up frequently (at least, recently). I would be interested to know from those who specialize in each of the coins listed here, what the major Pro and the major Con of each coin is from your specialized knowledge. Even if you are in love with the coin I'd still love to hear what the cons for that particular coin is! What I mean by pro is, for example, what advantages it has over other coins and why it might potentially dominate other coins in the future. What I mean by cons is, has the coin delivered on expectations from the developers, has there been turmoil in the community or is it not reaching its targets, will its tech be obsolete in the near future etc.

Here's the list in order of how they appear on coingecko.com.

1.  Ethereum (ETH)

2.  Ripple (XRP)

3.  Litecoin (LTC)

4.  Golem (GNT)

5.  SiaCoin (SC)

6.  Nem (XEM)

7.  Digibyte (DGB)

8.  LBRY Credits (LBY)

9.  MaidSafeCoin (MAID)

10. Steem (STEEM)

11. Waves (WAVES)

12. GameCredits (GAME)

13. Ark (ARK)

Would love to hear what you guys have to say. Obviously I'm missing many, probably far better or more interesting coins so please feel free to throw those in the pile. The idea is to get a good concise list of coins with Pro's and Con's listed next to each that can help sidestep the hype and come to some kind of sensible assessment of each coin. Apologies if this has been done before! Thanks a mill.

the only good one in thta list are ETH, siacoin, NEM, litecoin, LBRY, steem and maybe ark and maidsafe, the other i would avoid, especially ripple, it's the worse among them and it's not a real currency just a iou, the one instead that i like the most from your list are the pow one like LBRy and siacoin and of course ETH

Each coin has got its own pros and cons. Among the coins that are listed with is found to be the best. All other currencies were simply best in terms of trading perspective. The same haven't got used elsewhere same as ethereum or bitcoin. Most of the coins here function based on the ethereum blockchain platform.

Thanks guys, nice to see discussion going so quickly. I wonder if you could be more specific (just in the spirit of the thread)
Ayers, would you mind listing those coins (LBRy, Siacoin and ETH) pros and cons in your view?

Perhaps it would make more sense for people to pick a coin from the list they really like and lists it's pros and cons in their view and pick a coin they really hate and list its pros and cons. My mission here is to get specific reasons for why people think one coin is better than another rather than just a list of which coin they like or don't like without any reasons explaining. Btw Ayers, I wasn't familiar with the term "pow" before, just looked it up there, interesting.  Thanks again guys  Cool

The pro of the above listed coins is that they are well established and no one will lose if they invest in them for long term. The Cons of them is that since most of them are trusted, their prices are also higher and not everyone can afford to buy lot of those coins.

In this list, I have invested only in four of them like ETH, Litecoin, NEX and waves and rest of them don't know how much worth to invest. I also invested on IOTA for very long term perspective like one to two years time. ETH looks the best choice for now because it is going to be the second most used cryptocurrency after bitcoin.

the only pro that any of these altcoins have is "profit" and they give that profit to those who are experienced enough to make it not everyone who joins in late. there is nothing else.
the cons are limitless, they start at simple things such as terrible design of the wallets and no clear roadmap to some serious problems such as serious bugs and exploits, centralization and worst of all malware in their executable files!

as far as profit goes, ETH can give you a more secure profit if you buy inside the big dips. because you can be sure that there are a lot of whales that are manipulating the price and pumping it. but as it enters bubble things become nasty.

LTC is the same but at least it has the benefit of being copy of bitcoin and since recently it made a huge improvement called SegWit and that is being followed by a lot of new features such as the lightning network and also there have been talks about anonymous transactions, this coin is going to have a nice bull run.

steem in my opinion has always been a bad design, they had a lot of coins and dumped it all on random people who used their platform to post crap and just generate views and the price tanked. and it will continue to do so because there is a huge supply and also the fact that you can't really beat something like Reddit with Steem when you add money to the equation.

i don't consider Ripple a currency, it is heavily centralized and when price goes up it only makes those with millions of coins richer and they will dump on the investors.

the rest of the coins are either too small or i never found them interesting enough to do any research about. but as far as profit goes NEM and a couple of others showed to be profitable.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

MONEY !

It's all about the money, the profits. All these alt coins exist and people invest in them hoping that they're going to get them some revenue.

The ones I have trust in on this list are ETH and LTC. Ripple looks like it has potential as well but it doesn't interest me. The rest not really.

Another intersting project LBRY. But now I'm not talking about making cash out of it, I'm talking about the idea of the project itself of being able to share media on a decentralized blockchain.

From this list Sia and NEM are decent. The rest of them I am not sure.

From this list sia and nem ?!?! I guess you don't follow price changes much. Ether increased about $32 in one week.

Well it did, do you think it's going to keep increasing to infinity after this big of a rise? You should always evaluate how much upside and downside a coin has. Eth has had its epic run, it will probably stay quieter for a few months, before it can grow up 100% again.

Golem, Maid and Nem are my picks from the list. Other solid ones I feel are Eth and LTC. Can't say much about others, they may be good for quick trades to sell on pumps and earn profits.
Golem and Maid I feel are good for long term, just like Eth and LTC.
