If there was one thing it would be their bullet train. It's fast, comfortable, and riders are courteous. California should take notes for their high speed train project.

I am afraid my experience of Japan is limited to sushi.

A lot comes to my mind when I think of Japan.
One of it is my childhood, I'm not a citizen of Japan nor never been there. 1990's kids here in us had a big factor in terms of anime. Our childhood would not be completed with Japan who produces many anime.
Another, the technology. We cannot hide that this country is one of the fastest growing country in term of technology: gadgets, appliances, transportations, robots and many more.
Also, the weather and the culture. Maybe someday if God permits, I wanna visit this beautiful country.

Foods. I like their foods so much as what I can see from japan movies. I like how they make and design their foods.

The first thing that came to my mind is hospitable and disciplined people. They are caring for those who needed the most. The beauty and  cleanliness of their places.
