Silk road is a online marketplace where you can buy and sell items that are not readily available.

Quite a cynical reply. No need for sarcasm or trolling in this forum. Just wanted to be more informed about happenings in the bitcoin community.

A good think piece on the subject from http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/2754260.html

What does Silk Road do? It sells drugs. Illegal drugs. The kinds of drugs that would have you sent away to prison for many years for dealing. The government hasn’t stepped in to stop this because the Silk Road website is only accessible through TOR - it’s nearly impossible for anyone to know just where the website lives, whether in the USA, Australia, Nigeria or the dark side of the moon.

You search for the drug you’re interested in, find a list of vendors and prices, and use the seller ratings system (just as on eBay) to select a reputable vendor. Once that’s done, you close the sale by sending the vendor an order with some BitCoins. Nice, neat and simple. According to GAWKER, you can get LSD delivered through the post, in just a few days. A very illegal transaction conducted invisibly, securely, and internationally (the LSD was delivered from Canada to an address in the USA), all from the comfort of your web browser.

Can you feel that weird sensation in the pit of your stomach? That’s future shock. We’ve toiled 15 years through the Web era, building up tool after tool after tool to make it easier for people to connect, communicate, share, trade, and coordinate. We have systematically removed every bit of friction our culture has ever had that prevents people from coming together – to whatever end. So now they do. Some create the nearly endless factuality of Wikipedia, others want to pop some pills and watch the pretty colours.

Government – every government, everywhere in the world – is in roughly the same position the recording industry occupied in early 1999, just as Shawn Fanning unleashed Napster and changed media distribution forever. Now it’s power that’s being shared – power that states have held onto zealously, power which increasingly slips through their fingers, because it has become a slippery, digital quantity, and governments are fundamentally unprepared for this. Just as the record companies were unprepared for filesharing

It's been up since last night. Are you trying to access the site from the link on The Hidden Wiki? You probably clicked a phishing link...

Thanks for the straightforward response. Can see how this can be useful to some; but I'm gonna steer clear of it.

I was not trolling or being cynical, i was saying that in a good way.

A lot of people believe the reason people have found out about bitcoins was because of negative media attention brought by silk road, a site that sells lots of things for btc, including narcotics.

I was pointing out, if u can read, that not everyone has found out about bitcoins that way, obviously, because u didn't even know silk road existed, and yet knew about bitcoins.

Don't be a baby, and stop being so defensive. It actually makes me prey on you more. If you would have asked what i meant i would have explained to you what i just did, but your gut reaction was to "take offense"

Listen BtcTraitor, that's quite a cynical reply. No need for sarcasm or trolling in this forum. Just wanted to be more informed about happenings in the bitcoin community. okay?

Is that full enough circle for you? Who's the one trolling here?

As i said, I'm done. I'm sorry you felt the need to take such high offense. I believe your oversensitivity is probably a product of other more deep underlying problems in your personality, those things i cannot help you with.

I tried to help you understand what silk road was, as well as point out that all people learning about bitcoins aren't learning about them via bad media publicity. If that makes you take offense at every other word then im truly sorry. But you need to let go.

the whole reason i got into bitcoins was cause of Silk road and now i find out they got shut down and i don't know how to access them.

(I am a 1MB block supporter who thinks all users should be using Full-Node clients)
Avoid the XT shills, they only want to destroy bitcoin, their hubris and greed will destroy us.

What has silk road got to do with your bit coins ? they aren't attached to it, they are attached to your wallet file.
