After you post that your pm will get flooded with people giving you useless tips and asking you if you can share some with them. But to the point of you actually plan to do that , then it's a really good idea in my opinion

How can you be rich if you forget about them and if you didnt remember its login details if you use an encrypted one, 10 years is so long and so many things will happen. Even if you have an offline backup on it that you store/save in your treasure box, if there's no something bad then that's awesome, you will be rich on that year if and only if bitcoin is still alive Just kidding, I know bitcoin will survive for a long time.

I think it would be wise to do like an nlocktime transaciton instead of having your private key because i believe that bitcoin is definitely going to go up in the long term, so therefore selling anytime soon would be an absolute waste of effort and bitcoins.

 If you do an nlocktime transaction and throw away the private keys( make sure you do so securely) then you will be able to basically force yourself not to gamble/sell too low of a price.

Create a paper wallet and print 2 copies.

Put a copy in 2 fire proof safes in 2 locations. Maybe even buy a waterproof/ fireproof sleeve to seal it in.

Try and get on with your life and do not touch them.


These will be safe stored offline.

Go on bitaddress.org to get a paper wallet and make sure you wipe your history and have a printer that is offline when doing this. Share your private key with NO-ONE.

3btc may not be enough but who knows, it could be $100k per btc or far far less. Nobody knows what the price will be so invest and forget.

Yeah but that's the gamble. It could have dropped.

It is pretty much unanimous that Bitcoin will have a binary outcome. At its current trajectory, it is expected to be adopted by more people therefore grow is value vs fiat since there is a finite supply. At what price it will end up is anyone's guess. A variety of factors such as the market share vs altcoins and US dollar reserve currency status will mean the difference of 5 or 7 figures in a positive outcome. On the negative side, I do not think it'll go to zero, but can go near the current value of 1 dogecoin. Of course, that would be in the event of a catastrophic loss in confidence. The factors that will govern the price on a negative outcome is government regulation, chain split, change in PoW algorithm and again the market share & features of altcoins.

The Bitcoin civil war is bringing about uncertainty of future Bitcoin success vs Altcoins. It could be a blessing in disguise that allows for late comers to have a chance to accumulate. Or it can mark the beginning of the end of Bitcoin's reign and first mover advantage.

Many things might happen but the best thing is that, it is a sure big profit. You will be rich because the time it was released on January 2009, more than 8 years ago, it was almost free, it is not even worth a dollar.
You will be rich, the thing is, from a bitcoin which don't have a price became a $2100 or $3000 it is a big price and super big profit.
You might lost your money, but from the investment that you made from bitcoin, multiply your money for almost 100 times.
That is not an few extra dollars, that is a fortune.

People on this thread telling you that you'll definitely be rich or questioning whether or not USD will be with anything are crazy. In 10 years, Bitcoin won't even be remotely close to overtaking USD as a currency. I don't know if it will ever be. It has a huge volatility problem. Right now it is not a currency, it is an investment or medium for transferring money.

You probably won't be rich by holding btc for 10 years. You might make some money, but the odds of 3 btc making you rich are very small. Bitcoin has a lot of big hurdles to overcome before it can go up very much.

Bitcoin is totally reaching the height we can not imagine it can reach and the answer to your question that I am really thinking right now is yes! you can be super rich if the price would go straight up within that 10 years span you have a 3 BTC but forget about the forgetting part because you might forget the password instead then goodbye bitcoin and millions of earnings that you have right now, I think you just need to save and just go with your life and don't spend that 3 btc in 10 years and lets see what happens.

I would expect the price to be around $5000 in 3 years. Who knows for sure. The price could drop or go to the moon, but I'm guessing a slower steady increase.

Probably more if you bought 3 BTC in 2013 Early in would be $90 if you bought at peak $250 or around $400 or so in 2014
Today in 2017 its at 2600
So its likely you will be significantly richer just holding assuming there are no issues 10 years may be a bit long but if you check in now and then wouldn't hurt to just leave them sitting there.

Active development of certain coin is just not valid argument for investing in them. It won't guarantee that users will be interested and coin will be adopted.
There are shitload of altcoin and most of them are in state of 'active development. Coins need to earn certain amount of reputation before it can be recognized first.
Bitcoin due to fact that its reputation as the oldest cryptocurrency, reliability and proven longevity (at least compared to other coins) is the obvious choice for investors and hodlers.

I belive there is 99% chance you wil have quite soem money. You wil not be a rich cich, but 3 BTC will be quite soemthing in 10 years. It is not important if BTC wil be most used coin then.

Well you will probably be a couple of thousand dollars richer by that time but you won't become a millionaire in 10 years with only 3 BTC. Maybe in a couple decades when bitcoin is a million a coin but that's only speculation for now.
