So a couple of days ago, in a bloggers group on facebook; a guy asked what is bitcoin? And I was quite amazed to see that many people start commenting and saying stay away for bitcoin, its black currency, under world currency, or dark web currency and stuff like that.
Obviously the people who were saying this didn't know about bitcoin and have probably heard the same from someone else, but this is the perception of many around us.
What can be done to change this? Make BTC more user friendly? More appealing to general public?

There are certainly a lot of misconceptions of bitcoin out there.

My parents still think that bitcoin is some sort of currency that is issued by someone that is a drug dealer that doesn't want to reveal himself in the world and all there is to bitcoin is buynig drugs, prostitutes, hitmen etc.

But I'd say that 90%+ of the economic activity going on the bitcoin network is totally legitimate.

We need more awareness of bitcoin, we need the public to actually have the heart to see what bitcoin is really about - to see someone refer to bitcoin as black money is just really disappointing.

I agree people should be educated about bitcoin and awareness campaign is the best way.  But the problem with this is that those who volunteer for this is not incentivised.  Probably big companies that join bitcoin economy can help a lot in this awareness campaign since they will be the first on to have benefits if people understand what bitcoin is.

It would be better to inform them the  advantage of bitcoin that it's using for legal matters and it can really help the community. Wayback last year, that's my perception in bitcoin yet it was altered as my friend encrourage me to do tradjng and I found it profitabl. I think if we can share them our way of making money in bitcoin, their mind set would be changed too.

There are still many people who don't know about bitcoin and the one who said bitcoin is black currency and it is a fraud, they don't even read a single line about bitcoin, they heard it from others and they thought bitcoin is fraud but they are wrong, if they start earning from bitcoin then they will say bitcoin is the best way to earn money Tongue

Seriously is it true that people think that bitcoin is a black money and has a dark future? Because if it is true than why bitcoin's price continuously high.
Also one thing is coming in my mind. If people think about bitcoin is a bad currency than it could be end when it came? Now in this time, bitcoin has been spend too any years with a good achievement. Than it mean don't care about the people what they think about the bitcoin, because for us bitcoin has a bright future and it give us profit than it is good for all of us.

Personall I think we can't do much about that. There are different kinds of information about bitcoin, positive and negative, and people decide for themselves to which they want to listen. Times when bitcoin was getting mostly negative coverage in the meadia are over, so now it is up to an individual to what to believe.

Amm for this kind of perception you can't please everybody to believed on what is bitcoin and what bitcoins can do on people lives no one is experiencing bitcoin as a good example they obviously had bad experience using bitcoin from the internet nor they got scammed by someone who trying to believe them that investment money will worth to wait. In my country let just say 10% of people are using bitcoins and the others didn't know what the bitcoins yet and they believe that this coin is about the black market or darknet.

I don't guess scenario to be same in 2017. What you talking belongs to 2012-13 when people simply perceived Bitcoin to be illegal, then in next phase after big downfall (2014-15) people started considering it dead. But post 2016 period is boom period for Bitcoin.
I see several people in my city accepting personal payments in Bitcoin. The case which amazed me the most is of delivery man. He delivered TV from shop to my house and when I asked him about payment, he said I would like to receive payment in Bitcoin. He opened his mobile, I scanned QR code of his Zebpay wallet (Indian exchange wallet) and sent payment. It was all shocking for me that btc reached such boundaries!!

I am surprised to hear something like "stay away from bitcoin". Really don't know what could provoke such reaction, cause bitcoin is not banned and not admited illegal in any country yet. I think it is going to stay a mystery to me why those people commented so bad about bitcoin.

It will not stop. They talk like that as if fiat dont have a darker side. Actually it is the darkest of all currencies.
What else can be done to prevent this? Nothing. They will keep on using this and we wont know which it is that are doing the illegal stuff if the trade was made only with chat or something else.
They just send their coins same as how fiat is being send. As if they will put a note that it is for illegal drugs or arms and other illegal stuff.
The only way we have is to not join them.

Actually to save yourself of wasted time, I suggest to ignore those people who think Bitcoin is a black currency or whatnot. It's sad to say we can't really please everyone, so not all people are open about the thought of bitcoin.

Yes, there remains to be a great number of people even online who look at Bitcoin that way because that is what they have heard also from other people. Well, this is quite understandable as Bitcoin is very revolutionary something still new to many. Now...what should we do? I think I will just continue on holding to my Bitcoin and maybe do some trading with altcoins and soon Bitcoin can be really mainstream and we don't have to explain it to anyone. Now, I don't basically care what those others can be saying for or against Bitcoin because certainly those people are not affecting the rising value of Bitcoin.
It is possible for those people who is not educated about the true meaning of bitcoin to dislike it or to not promote bitcoin for others. Because in  reality bitcoin does have risk for those who not know it to well. And if you are new to the things like this it may be hard for you too cope up but if you want to learn more it is better to take time to read on forum like this so that you can be educated on the thing that is related to bitcoin, investment or even in trading. You can also join the speculation and join signature where you can earn while learning then make an investment by putting some capital to start on.

Don't waste your time trying to convince people to join the bitcoin revolution, take it as a sign that you are a pioneer and take advantage of you being ahead of the pack to amass as much BTC as possible instead of trying to waste energy to convince people.

They will keep being on the denial phase until they are forced to understand the importance of bitcoin. Back then you couldn't convince people in 1990 about the internet, this is the same.
Let them handle it by there self and dont convince them if they dont wanted or they are not interested they just dont realize the what opportunities they are waste todays in bitcoin this is the currency that can be the future in the technology.

I think those people who say that didn't know what bitcoin is or they didn't believe on it. You don't need to problem that because that is there problem. The important is you know that bitcoin is real and how it works. Someday they will believe on it when they know it more and have some knowledge about bitcoin.

Most people who haven't heard about bitcoins, hears them for the first time either on news papers or the media. Now when do the media talk about bitcoins? Let me say it in a simple language: Mostly when something "bad" takes place and bitcoin is involved. We need to stop spreading the negativity and need to make people aware about the bright side of cryptocurrency.

I think you should dare to explain a little with words that are easier to understand so that not many people think bitcoin is a threat or something bad

I have come across a few people that are very angry with bitcoin but when I ask them of what are their knowledge about it they just don't have any comment regarding this, they are thinking that bitcoin is probably a dark web kind of strategy that I think many people are spreading a dark lies across the internet to simply perceive the mind of people who doesn't have a true knowledge towards bitcoin.
