I want to know how to start mining altcoins!

Do i need a ASIC miner or a GPU rig like in the old days!

wallet i have created multibitHD,
now i need the hardwarepart.

i already having a R290X from sapphire, and was wondering witch software is the best for altcoin mining???

asic are profitable but i prefer gpu they have a wider option, and are more profitable now with all the altcoin pumped, you can either choose baikal mienr or a gpu rig with 6 x amd or nvidia, nvidia is better now

So i have created a list what i need for mining, see below the list. Hopefully this is 100% functional and will get a lot of hashrate to get altcoins!

This is enough right for now!

And than everything must be set-up to mine!

Actually the 270x now isn't a good choice to buy , if you want it amd then you should go for the rx series or wait for the vega , if you already have this card then it's better to start with.

Depends on what you want to mine.  Scrypt mining is basically asic only whereas gpu mining is good for other algos.

Etherium, altcoins, zcash etcetc are getting more profitable than ever!

For me i want to start mining getting some profit about it, so with a ASIC rig or a big rig with GPU cards what are good ways?

Technical it will be fine i think, but the set-up and the costs i need to make first.

Because i have for now free electricety and internet 520mb/s so that will be a great benefit!!!

amd for ETH+ dual mining, nvidia is better for everything else, especially zcash and lbry, but also skein and groestl and sib and many other algorithm

nvidia can generate a lot of profit, they are pricy but they earn more money than amd, for comparison a 480 cost $200 versus a 1070 that cost $350 now, and the nvidia earn you 50% more at least

Two things that need to be mentioned; you may have a hard time finding that particular motherboard. There are a few motherboards that support 6 GPUs out of the box, but they are all hard to find and sell out quickly, so check the threads in this subforum that are related to motherboards confirmed to be able to use 6 or more GPUs.  ---  The other thing is that you did not mention a PSU, this is something that definitely needs to be top quality and make sure it has the amount of connectors you need as well as enough watts. Also you will need to either build or buy a case (usually open air) that can support 6 GPUs.

I also just started learning about mining altcoins

From what I've read, it's not very profitable with CPU power.

So far I've only setup minerd.exe,  mining X11 at suprnova.cc pool
I realize it might take a few years for a payout.  This was more of a test for myself to see how it works.

I have a GTX765M in my laptop

Is it worth it to setup GPU mining with this?
Can someone point me to nvidia gpu mining setup? step by step,  I'm not a techie
Is there a list of altcoins and which ones are currently profitable with GPU mining?

just setting up my current GPU is my next step,  once I understand that, I will look at building a separate rig

your build is good enough but buy a ssd and not a mechanical hd, i prefer corsair oe evga over seasnic, with the pool i choose suprnova or yiimp most fo the tiem they cover every altcoin and with mining software you can't go wrong there is ccminer 2.0 that can mine any algo

 Not only no but HELL NO.

 Laptops aren't designed to run at high load levels (like mining puts on them) and WILL overheat and often die if you try unless you take extreme measures to try to cool them that kill your profitability - and sometimes THAT isn't enough.

 Running a USB miner on a laptop isn't a big deal - the software doesn't put much load on the laptop as almost all the actual WORK of mining is being run on the USB-connected device.


 You should be able to run 4 x GTX 1070 comfortably on a Seasonic X-1050 - I run 3 on the X-850 with plenty of headroom - but I'd like to know where you are finding those now, NewEgg has been out for a week or so and Seasonic appears to have discontinued production on them in favor of that "Prime" series with the JUNK fan.

 EVGA G2 series would be my second choice - the G3 ALSO went to a junk fan and should be avoided.

 SSD on a mining rig is overkill, you don't need the extra speed - but the low-end ones are cheap enough they might be price-effective, since you don't need 500 GB on a mining rig as a general rule (BURST/STORJ/MAID is a different story).


 X11 is a bad choice to try to mine with a GPU - there are 3 different companies that have made ASIC miners for that algo ALL of which are a ton more efficient than any GPU.
 Scrypt (Litecoin, DOGE, etc) is a worse choice, as the ASIC for that algo are into at least their 3'd generation, each of which has gotten more efficient, and the FIRST ASIC generation was a lot more efficient than any GPU.
 SHA256 (Bitcoin etc) .... even worse than Scrypt by a wide margin, don't even bother THINKING about that with anything but a recent generation ASIC AND cheap power.

Of course don't forget you can also check on ebay to see if someone is selling their scrypt miner.
But in that case I would be careful if the hardware really works as promised or not.
