I have some investment in btc, and I am interested in getting into trading/investing in alts. I can see there is a lot of scam coins and pump and dumps and would like to properly research coins before I make a trade. I am interested in information like what features make them stand out, why they may have a future in the crypto world and how many were pre-mined, and how do I know the authenticity of the research so I don't buy into misinformation.
So for the traders who do research and don't just trade on technicals, what sources do you trust and what do you look for when researching coins?

Just go to coinmarketcap.com, choose a coin, go to Social tab and follow their twitter, reddit, and from there join their telegram group/slack channel. Download and print the whitepaper, read it, scan everything on the twitter and reddit, keep tabs on the chat rooms, and read up on their bitcointalk announcement and you should get an understanding of what the project is about and how to proceed accordingly. Also tools like coindata, cryptoping are very useful to back up your analysis.

Well described the steps that need to be followed in finding the proper altcoin to make an investment. Same time it's good to be on the exchanges and observe the price variation periodically. This too helps to buy at the right time and earn good on price increase.

Thank you very much. This might help me as well as the OP.

This forum, coinmarketcap.com, and I also use reddit a lot. Asking the community has been a big help so far for me.

It seems you should know the challenge of looking at altcoin before investing and trading, you should look at the graph and MACD to determine how altcoin evolves over time.

Read the announcement thread of the coin here on bitcointalk, check the dev's github profile, whether or not he is an active developer with experience. Also never trade any coin with daily trade volume under 1BTC, Cuz it's a dead coin and you will be left with Shit bags. And if there is nothing that alarms you then you can buy and hold the coin and aim it to skyrocket in future.

Searching in Google is the first step. Then check serious blogs. You also need to observe whether that altcoin is a scam. For this purpose you can use scam monitors and scam alert web sites.

Everything you need can be found here. However reading 200 pages long forum threads and figuring out what's real valuable info and what's shill/FUD can cause your brain to enter a state of meltdown. Decide what coin you're interested in, read the first post in their thread, check the whitepaper out(if available) to learn the basics. I usually look for a subreddit dedicated to the coin and maybe for a FAQ there.

I'm doing a full a review of the project. There white paper, roadmap, and CEO if its legits . Going to review also at social media. But prankly speaking there you can identify it specially a good project even your doing a review still not a prove of a good project it's always something changes to be together with coins they have. It's a matter of gambling here in cryptocurrency.
