Ok, so me and a friend have been discussing getting into the cryptocurriency market. What peaked our interest is that a few years ago he had about 115 Bitcoins and sold them for about $1.50. LOL he is kicking himself pretty hard right now. However we have been reading and looking into it again the last couple weeks and are very interested just would like some opinions.
1. How many people actually make money with this? I dabble in stocks and have friends and family that make decent supplemental income so we were looking into this.
2. Any advice or recommendations on which places to buy and how to store my currencies would greatly be appreciated. We are looking to just buy, store, and sell. Not interested in mining at the current time anyway.
3. How hard is it to actually sell when you are ready, as in are there enough buyers out there. It seems to be just like stocks however I am not sure.
4. Here are our list of of ones that were are currently looking at to buy, tell me what you think
RIPPLE
NEM
VERGE
GOLEM
STEEM
MAIDSAFE
LISK
I just was looking at ones that have a low circulating amount and lower price tag.
4. Also we aren't investing 20K at the current time. roughly about 3K. So we have kind of thought about the Shotgun method of just taking our 3k and buying about 10 different ones and selling them when we feel the time is right or we are satisfied with the return. Is that a viable option in this market?
We have been looking at this for about 4 months now but only the last two weeks seriously, we just are kicking the hell out of ourselves right now because we looked at Ethereum and Ethereum classic and Litecoin and see had we jumped on it then that we would have done well for ourselves. I know I am going to get some negative feedback and that's ok, I want the honest truth about this market.

My advice is to forget about making "money". Bitcoin is money. You never need to lose money by turning your bitcoin back into inferior cash. Simply use it to buy online. That is what bitcoin is for and until you spend bitcoin you have not really used it. It would be like calling yourself a gambler because you bought some casino chips and carried them around a bit before selling them back.

So RodeoX you're saying that you cant make money or treat this like stocks?
I have no interest in buying just a bitcoin to buy stuff online. Maybe I wasn't clear in my original post. I am looking to buy and sell as an investor, not buy them to shop. Is that not a feasible market or idea? Does nobody do this?
Not to sound insulting but the difference between getting casino chips and cryptocurriencies is that tomorrow or next week when I go to cash in my chips they will be worth the exact same amount every hour of every day of every week as when I first got them

I'll try to answer your questions.
1. I don't know how many people make money with bitcoin, but i can say it's a lot.
2. Check for your country local exchange as that's the most recommended place to buy, if there's none, then you can check localbitcoins.com to search people selling or buying bitcoin in your country.
3. It's not hard to sell as there's a lot of buy order in the exchange.
4. Out of your list, i have ripple, golem and maidsafe. But i bought ripple at ~2400 satoshi and golem about ~15k. A bit high at the moment if you want to enter in my opinion, but if you don't mind waiting then it's allright to buy maidsafe and golem as they will release brass golem next month.
5. Yes, it's a viable option. I also want to kick myself as i was only watching as golem up to 15k from maybe 12k satoshi.

No insult taken. My casino analogy was not really that apt.
You can certainly treat BTC like a trade-able asset. But here is a way to maximize profits.

1. Buy some coin. This will cost you some money in trade fees.

2. When you see an appreciation in value that you want to lock in, consider this idea. Instead of locking it in as pounds, dollars, or euros think about avoiding fees. If instead you bought a gold bar you would not only save on trade fees, most places will offer a discount for using bitcoin. Now you have the maximum value.
You could also take some cash and put it in the bank while spending BTC to shop. You will net more of the value of your coin this way because you are avoiding the fees and hassle of trading. And you will have greater security and speed than shopping with a card.

Thanks for the replies, so can all enlighten me on storing bitcoins. I don't want you to think im lazy but this stuff is like Chinese to me. I read a bunch on it but it seems like if an article or thread is just two months old then it might as well be ancient history because it probably doesn't even apply to today. So what are my most cost efficient ways of storing? what are the safest ways?

One other question. I made an account just now on coinbase and I couldn't see where I could buy stuff like maidsafe or ripple just bitcoin. I apologize that im not up to date with the lingo in this market yet... where do I go to purchase these? lol its just a bunch of info that im trying to devour at once. Hell getting into buying and selling US stocks was like 2+2=4 but this is not currently for me

i will advice to you my buddy , you must learn and research for it first before investing, if you want to go trading you must put a high risk on the coins, we may not predict whether it will pump more than the ico price or it will dump and never be pump. Try gambling, yes you will put a risk too but im sure you will be fun and enjoy the game. you may also try link i think the ico is soon to be in bittrex

You will get a veriety of answers here, depending on who are shilling and hyping and pumping whatever Alt coin. Most of these Alt coins are

scam coins and some are genuine but they have huge flaws. Your safest bet would be to bank on Bitcoin, because it has a proven track record

and most people buying / trading Alt coins, goes back to Bitcoin in any way. { Other Alt coins have no utility value... most merchants do not

accept it }  Wink

Here is the best advice you will get here:

You know very little about those coins. Don't invest in something you don't understand.

I'll second that. 99+% of alts are pointless. I would not pay anything for any amount of alts, they are basically worthless.

I guess not. Altcoins are not pointless/useless because we do trading on altcoins using our Bitcoin just increase the size of our Bitcoin. hehe

Investing in cryptocurrencies will surely bring returns, Verge, Golem and Lisk are the 3 i prefer out of the ones you've mentioned. Doing a couple of ICOs won't be a bad idea but with your lack of experience might be even more confusing. So, stick to the ones already available on exchanges. In regards to your last question. once you are ready to buy a coin or a token, check under markets, on coinmarketcap.com  there you will be able to see in which exchange (s) is available. Then, sign up into this new exchange and once that's ready you can send bitcoin/ Ethereum so that you can acquire the coin or token you desire.
