Hi Guys,

I recently got into mining and I've got 5 x RX470 4GB Sapphire (Hamster Wheel) in a mining rig and 2 x RX480 MSi 8GB in my PC.

I followed this guide and with some tweaks in Claymore 9.3 was getting a much increased hash rate on both systems:

https://steemit.com/mining/@jsfoo8/basic-guide-mining-ethereum-with-rx400-rx500-gpus

After an hour or two both machines had hard crashed. Both machines didn't work properly at all after the crash.

With the PC I was able to re-flash the original BIOS onto the cards, change the drivers in device manager and started from fresh install but now after a few hours the computer crashes to a black screen and needs to be turned off to come back online. Is there a fix for this?! It would be great to increase the machine's uptime to expedite ROI! How do I get it running more stable?

With the rig it seems to be a lot worse, I have reflashed the BIOS but Claymore still couldn't see the cards after and Windows is giving error code 43 - problems with device - even after uninstalling the device, drivers, clean install. Now it won't even go into windows fresh install! Does anyone know what I can do?

Thanks Guys Smiley

it could be riser cable, or pcie slot on mobo is damage or even your gpu is damaged
hamster wheel rx470 is the cheapest rx470, they use lower quality component, if you want safe run, you need to run the fans at 100% all the time

Could also be that you're not getting enough power.

You need to test each component. One thing at a time.
Test all your risers
Test one card at a time
Test different PSUs

Normal PC troubleshooting. Start with the most common things, though; riser, psu, single card.

Thanks guys..

I have taken all the cards out and put them back in one by one. I have used a different USB cable between the main board and the cards and different risers.
The issue is the same on all cards - only 3 cards were flashed as ATIflash could only see 3 cards.

The error is: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the computer goes to the blue screen and restarts

All of the cards have the original BIOS on them now and appeared to work one by one and produced the same hashrate as they did initially.

IRQL is normally memory? I tested  the memory I think it's OK - any ideas what I am looking at here? Motherboard???!

I have put the original BIOS on all cards. Reformatted, fresh install, ran DDU, installed the GPU driver, ran claymore on each card individually and they all go to black screen / blue screen in a few minutes after mining commences.

Please guys any ideas or help much appreciated x

are you sure you flashed back the original bios files for each cards ?
Did you saved the original bios file for each cards separately ( marked cards like 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , and saved bios file for each cards like saved bios 1 , saved bios 2 ...., and reflashed the cards with the proper saved bios ? saved bios 1 to card 1 , saved bios 2 to card 2 , saved bios 3 to card 3 ...
Those cards might have a different original bios number version , and might not interchangeable with each other !!!
RX 470 /480 cards from the same manufacturer with the same model number can have a different bios file version number . I have many msi / sapphire rx 480/470 cards with same modell number , but different bios version number  ...

Did you modded your own bios files ? or downloaded from somewhere ? Are those cards have a dual bios or not ?
what crimson driver are u using ? what operation system ?
if you have a modded bios and using the latest amd driver , your system need a driver patch to recognize the cards or you going to the device driver error.

"The error is: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the computer goes to the blue screen and restarts"
This error usually occurs after the installation of a buggy device driver, system service, or incorrect BIOS ( incorrect bios settings on the mobo , or incorrect bios on ur  vga card )

Start from the beginning, fresh install using just one card and go from there.

AMD drivers are buggy as hell.. Just make sure you have used the original bios and everything has been reset.

I agree with what everyone else has posted. You should re-flash all your cards back to the original bios again, one-card-at-a-time, to ensure that the flash was applied correctly. This means stripping out all the risers and just start with the motherboard, processor, memory and one video card installed in the PCIe slot directly on the mobo (no risers). Flash, shutdown, swap out the card with another and repeat.

Once you have flashed all your cards back to the original BIOS in this fashion you can begin the build again. Start out with a fresh OS install and just one card mounted directly to the motherboard again. Try to mine at default settings and if it runs let it go for 30 minutes or so to make sure, if that card passes, mark it with a piece of tape, or sticker somehow and swap in another card until all of them have been vetted in this manner. Then you can start building the rig again by adding one additional card with a riser. Let the system run with just those two cards for awhile, again to check for stability. Slowly add in the rest of the cards, running the rig for an hour or so between each addition until you either find the problem component or you have the rig back in operation running all of the cards at default speeds and bios.

If you do reach this stage of all cards running again, just let the whole rig run at default for 24-48 hours to make sure there isn't something else wrong, weak power, bad riser, etc. If it passes, then you can begin to try and make changes again to increase your hash-rate.

I know this sounds (and is) tedious, but unless you take the time to troubleshoot each component one at a time and give it time to pass a burn-in test you will ultimately spend even more time chasing your tail in circles trying to figure out what is wrong with so many variables. I know the temptation to skip or short-cut many of these steps will be strong, but think of the other benefit by doing the exercise you will become more acquainted with how the entire process works and will help with future builds and troubleshooting.

Windows 10 now auto-updates video drivers unless you disable. Could this be your issue? I had to try several different methods to disable the auto-update. Same thing was happening to my rig.

Hi... Thanks for responses

I ran DDU directly after a clean install - this stops the drivers auto updating. Then I installed Crimson 16.11.5 Driver.

I only took the original BIOS from one card, the first one.. modified it, then flashed that BIOS to all of the other cards. Then I took the original BIOS I backed up and flashed that to all of the cards. How can I fix this?

I have Windows 10 Home on the Rig. I created my own BIOS following this guide: https://steemit.com/mining/@jsfoo8/basic-guide-mining-ethereum-with-rx400-rx500-gpus

The IRQL issue is what I am getting on all cards, even when they are in the Rig on their own.

You might can find a clean copy of the BIOS for your card on toms or Guru. I had to do this with a few cards after running into some driver signature issues before there was a fix for it.
Same error as you, coem to find out i had been trying to reflash my XFX cards with a Sapphire BIOS and it was the source of the error. Found the correct XFX BIOS, flashed those and been fine since.

My Windows 10 Home was updating even after using DDU and deselecting auto-update after installing Crimson driver. Within minutes after installing my own legacy driver, I would see in control panel update history say that an AMD driver auto-update failed. You can see if it's trying to update by looking at the update history in control panel.

There's a setting in Windows that you have to change.

Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools\Services - Change Startup Type to "Manual"

As Socket54 suggested, there are a few sites that maintain databases of the original "clean" ROMS just for such an occasion. One I have used is TechPowerUp. You can change the query to match your specific card, but here is a start for your Sapphire 470's: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?architecture=&manufacturer=Sapphire&model=RX+470&interface=&memType=&memSize=4096&since=

As suggested earlier, the first thing you need to do is get all the cards working again with a stock BIOS and default speeds/settings before looking around for another modified BIOS.

Hi Guys

I did a clean install, removed all the cards and risers, put one card in the main PCI slot.

I flashed the standard BIOS to the card.

Ran DDU. Disabled driver update. As soon as I install an AMD driver the system goes buggy, black screens, blue screens with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or another atigk.sys or something error

Tried everything from scratch, clean install - as soon as I install then AMD driver I get errors.

So I decided one last time I would fresh install, mod the cards to a memshift BIOS version 1 by 1 and go back to ethOS and see if this driver issue would persist there, however ->

During the install of windows from USB the computer turned itself off with a blue screen and graphics related error! Does this mean that it's hardware?

Motherboard?

Help Please! Smiley

Well I don't think anybody can tell you exactly what's wrong. The best advice you got was to troubleshoot everything as there could be many reasons...did you try the cards with another system?
Also when you take the vbios from one card and flash it to others there could be issues as well even if they're the same manufacturer/model. One of my 470's has a 256kb rom and the other 512kb and they are identical models.
