What is the point of such an action? Are they trying to intimidate China? For what purpose? I thought the US and China were supposed to have a united stance against ISIS now that the States are under Trump's power. And that only a week after they denounced North Korea's missile tests together. What a lack of consistency and priorities.

Despite the Philippines flip-flopping on the issue, America is still trying to deter China's ambition in the area. If you post the whole map you'd see that aside from Mishief Reef another island, Scarborough Shoal, has also been occupied and is dangerously close to the Philippine capital. A missile launcher there would would allow China to bombard Manila.
America obviously don't want the country to fall into China's sphere of influence (or more like, control, with the possibility of holding the capital hostage).

These ships should be in the Mediterranean sinking every corrupt NGO vessel that brings illegal migrants from north Africa to Europe, instead they waste millions of taxpayers money on some ill motivated political move that if anything will actually worsen our situation in general. At the same time there are rumors of the 6th US fleet actually helping illegals reach European shores?!

Trump under the pressure of her altess princess ivanka seems to reverse on most issues: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/01/23/donald-trump-has-already-broken-promises-on-immigration.htmlShe still wants to be accepted by her "friends"... Will see... No they are not ngo, they are the employees of sorros! It's the same fleet that let the people in benghazi be butchered while watching?

It's not like China would just invade the country at a whim, that would damage the reputation it is trying to build up, not to mention that would alert all the other claimants. There is also the defense treaty with the US. China wants the US out of the region, China attacking the Philippines would draw the Americans in with the reason as "defending a long-standing ally". Even without the treaty, I'd imagine they'll go hostile and support a proxy war in the Philippines to drive out the Chinese. This is why the Chinese Navy don't send their ships there but rather the Coast Guard which is considered more "civilian". If they send the Navy people would cry out "invasion!". With the Coast Guards, China would just say they are patrolling "their" territory, disputed it may be. As for the shipping boats, they've already done that. People call it "the cabbage". Surround the area with fishing boats, then later coast guard ships "escorting" the earlier boats, and before you know it, they're dumping sand on the reef.

Your title is very misleading. There are hardly any chances of anyone invading Europe, while there is a real chance of the Chinese invading the South China Sea islands (for example, they had invaded the Paracel Islands in 1974, and the Johnson South Reef in 1988). So the Americans are perfectly justified in improving the security in the South China Sea region.

Correct. The South China Sea is a vital supply line for its major allies in Asia, Japan and South Korea. China exerting a de facto control over the waters it claims (which is pretty much everything, going up to the coastlines of the other claimants) would be disastrous for the two. Chinese scout ships has even been spotted on Benham Rise, which is to the west of the Philippines. You know who other country have territory to that direction? Yup, America, with Guam and the Marianas. They're definitely testing how much they can get away with. No sovereign state is currently doing this any member of the EU or NATO. (Eastern Europe is a different matter, with Russia just around the corner.)

The Chinese modus operandi is very simple. First they will bully and intimidate their neighbors by sending their warships and frigates. The neighbor will enter in to negotiations with the Chinese, often ceding a part of the territory which is being claimed by China (although the Chinese may have no legal rights to this territory). This strategy has worked against Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Bhutan, and Pakistan. Even Russia has ceded the control of Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island.

That's why up in the Himalayas, with a lot of the parts pretty much mountains. Oh wait, this must be the parts near Tibet, no? Funny that they keep accusing America of imperialism every time someone points out how they treat their neighbors. Just give it time and they'll be on international conflicts just like America. All this grabbing territories from neighbors is part of they consolidating their hold on what they insist is their core. After this they'd be on a spree of "liberating" countries from "oppression". Just ask Nepal.

China has the attitude of claiming that which is not theirs. They are greedy individuals who are using their power so that weak countries will give up and they claim more islands and extend their territory. They have once shown an ancient document claiming that their territory even extends to the moon. Chinese are brilliant people but sometimes they are just out of line.

Somehow, they have avoided conflict with China by ceding territory.

What I got from it was that though Bhutan was trying to avoid conflict, they haven't truly relinquished their claims on territories they were holding when the Chinese came and pushed them out.

There is hardly anything they can do. Waging a war against China will be of no use. India tried that, and in the end lost tens of thousands of sq.km of land and many thousands of their best soldiers. The only option for Bhutan is to cede the control of the disputed territories to China and then sign a border pact with them.
