Are mini versions of GPU bad ideas ?

Ok, so I can have the mini version of the RX 570 for 40€ less than the regular price, and in great quantities. So I am wondering if these models are to be avoided or not in term of heat. So, what do you think, wise idea or not to take some ?

Depends on your setup. If you just have a hobby rig or two, its nbd. But if you have more than that/are battling heat already, you'll be pushing the fans on the minis pretty hard all the time. I've noticed some mini cards I have using about 20% more fan speed compared to their larger counterparts. I've never used any of the really mini cards with a single fan.

you are saving 40 Euro a card..  I had a lot of  rx 470 xfx

really good price but they mine a little slower due to overheat issues

still they were 159 usd  I mined them for 2 months and sold them at 150 usd.

made about 30 bucks a card.

I saw you buy and sell a lot and made some profit. But if you add the time you spend, would it be more profitable just to hold on them?

if your running a small rig then heat isnt much of an issue
and these cards are good for a tinkerer
you just cant push them like the big boys!

Mini cards have the same internal guts, GPU core and memory so they can be pushed just as hard as the full slot cards. The issue is less heatsink surface area and one less fan to blow over and cool off this reduced surface area. This leads to a situation of more heat to deal with.

Once way to deal with this increased heat is to run the cards at slightly slower clock-speeds and voltages, which will mean they will be slightly less efficient than their full sized counterparts. The other way is to run them the same (voltages and clock speeds) of their full sized siblings but to direct external airflow right at them. This may mean a box fan or some other airflow stream to get rid of the heat.

So basically the minis can be a good deal, just keep in mind you may need to be a bit more creative in removing heat and getting more cool air to them. In the OPs case, I think 40€ less per card savings will more than offset the cost for an additonal box fan or two.

I have the mini versions of EVGA GTX1060 6GB and they have been working great. I am getting around 24 MH/s on ETH while drawing under 100 watts each. They are running pretty cool at only 60° C with the fan running at 60%. I do not have any full sized cards to compare them to, but from what I read they are achieving the same hashrate.

Minis are great.
If you string them on an outside rack or a shelf you eliminate the only small downside they have.

Fans are not an issue, even if some die, the cards will be long gone before the warranty expires.

now i have few i7 with geforce 970 vga, can i use them to start mining again?

im asking cuz the op wants to use a 40buck vga! but these cards and few more im gonna buy next week (geforce 1080 series) will they make ny profit for me?

Why a bad idea? The temperature is several degrees higher because of one fan? It fix by the small increase in the speed of the fan

Heat problems can be easily fixed with manually attached 12cm fans nearby GPU cards. The reduced size allows to do it compact way against fullsize cards and the overall performance can be even more so.
