Guys, i made a small fortune in altcoin/bitcoin. In which country should i settle ?
I have no wife, no kids, just a girlfriend, i´m free to go wherever i want (she´ll go with me).
But it has to be a bitcoin-friendly country.
I have no intention to buy lambos, just a peaceful life.

You need to do some traveling around the world to experience different cultures and environments and see how you feel.  Regardless of what anyone recommends here, different places around the world suit different people.

Are you willing to learn a new language?  If not, that will narrow your potential countries greatly.

Having traveled to 18 countries so far, I would likely choose Bali.  But I personally wouldn't choose a place to "settle".  If you prefer something else in the future, why restrict yourself to a single place?

Exactly what i´m saying ! The world changes all the time faster. Staying free, is my credo. Even if rent costs more than owning, you can´t weigh up freedom.

Get another one, may be in a different country, pack your kids and wife, it sounds harder than it actually is. Be flexible. Give yourself a nudge !

Have you decided your destination? If not, I can give an idea about it. Island is a friendly country for bitcoin, you can use it freely without any difficulty, besides, if you come here, you can think about the work of a miner , Because you will not spend too much money to pay for electricity, it's really cheap.

Having some property is ok. You can rent it and make money from it. If you are the one paying the rent you are ultimately losing money.

If you have the money then just buy some property in some touristic place and you'll have passive income. Traveling is overrated anyway, unless you have 100+ million and you are going to be stressed about traveling expenses and paying rents everywhere.

30 years ago, i traveled to Turkey, with the intention to live there. Boy, am i happy to have decided against it ! Which shows: don´t get to rooted, this world is changing all the time. With money you can stay free !

Turkey was alright 30 years ago. (even 15 years ago) It was like an eastern European country at worst. It was not fully well but we were getting used to live a civilized life.

All went to hell after the elected government of 2002. They (sadly we) became a complete puppet of USA and radical islamism spread everywhere like a virus.

Turkey is devolving just like it happened to Iran. The majority ( full morons ) has no problems with that. While i seek ways to get out of this hell (I have high hopes with bitcoin), if anybody is thinking about having a life here, there simply isn't one -anymore.

You can travel here in Philippines there's a lot of foreigner travel and stay here for good because Philippines is a nice place to stays.

When you have kids, hire a nanny for each. Send them to private schools.
Cash out in 2 or 3 major exchanges, or make it a daily routine to sell to locals.

A relatively large 3 to 5 bedroom, 2 or 3 car garage home, with a swimming pool, in a gated community will set you back about 10 to 20 million pesos, or 200k USD to 400k USD.

*edit* at 53, expect to live to maybe 83 ? so that's 30 years. You better have at least 1000 BTC (at today's prices) if you want to be comfortable without too much additional work. Get a token job for income tax purposes, but usually the government will leave you alone if you blend in.

That's 3 BTC per month for 30 years, more or less. Don't exceed that budget. You wouldn't unless you do something stupid. Just be smart about it. As a foreigner, you might spend more on local food (coconuts?) but just tip the waiters an extra 10~15% and you will get excellent service most of the time.

All gas stations are full-service, by the way. You can't gas the car yourself, they won't let you. Hire a chauffeur / driver for $300 USD per month. Double that amount if he acts as armed bodyguard.

I don't have anywhere near 1000 coins but I'm pretty confident my stash will allow me to retire early, maybe in 5-10 years or so. I don't like the look of a place where you have to employ armed security. I'm planning to leave the UK & move to the US if bitcoin ever reaches $10,000 per coin.

Stay in a decent 3rd world country. But this definitely depends on how much you can afford.

Congratulations. If I were you at that age because I am much younger than you, I would go together with my girlfriend in Cambodia. You can rent a house for a month for 20 USD there so with a bitcoin fortune you can live your dream retirement there. Get a house near the beach and enjoy the rest of your life without too much worries. Food is not the best but it depends on anyone taste. If I had the money although I am used to better food here in Italy I would definitely go there.

Why not stay and live in your country? By moving into another country you are just incurring additional cost from purchasing your ticket, fixing residency, building a house. Also not having a Bitcoin-friendly country is not a problem as you can always convert it to Fiat which has more use as of today. Generally if Bitcoin gets a lot of demand then maybe businesses in your country will soon accept Bitcoin. The small fortune you have right now must be used in investment or on how you plan to have a retirement fund. Think about the future not where you want to live because it is Bitcoin friendly.

Try Canada too. A little bit more laid back. Guns aren't allowed to be carried in Canada, but you can own them. In the US you can get a carry permit or just carry openly depending on state.

I think that way, you don't really need armed security, but that's how I think. Regardless of country, I will find a way to arm myself or hire someone to do that, while trying to stay within their legal framework.


Actually, that's just me thinking. Most expats don't need armed security, but I guess I am more paranoid than others. There is a term called NPE or "Non Permissive Environment". Anyway, this is off topic. I believe the UK doesn't like guns too much.

As for lifestyle, yeah, I was spoiled that way in my younger years. When I got married, I got one nanny for each kid, I have 2 toddlers. My parents are semi-retired but they have two maids (one acts as the chef) and two drivers. The maids live in the house, the drivers go home at the end of the day.

You will need to consider facts like legal aspects of the country (make sure the country is safe for immigrants), taxation (tax heaven country would be the best in this regard so even if bitcoin receives legal recognition, you will be safe), third one is accessibility of the funds (I am sure you won't cash out all of your crypto funds so make sure that the country has bitcoin ATMs and has large number of merchants accepting bitcoins or at least moving in that direction).

Germany can be a good place to travel, however, this country is really bitcoin friendly. OP is talking about where he can live and work with bitcoin.

With no doubt,you could get settled in Japan as it has even announced bitcoin as legal payment.So you could easily see your day to day needs completed with bitcoin.Second choice could be European union where bitcoin transactions were even given exemption from VAT(value added tax).Australia could also be considered as a third choice since it is also bitcoin friendly.

Personally I would retire somewhere in SE Asia, and will do this one day. Thailand or Vietnam but thats because Ive been there so many times and speak the language, know my way around. If you dont have this than first go there on holiday a few years in a row to figure out what suits you best. I would never buy land/house/condo but just rent. This way I have no strings attached, what if they build a large condo project next door? No way, I will move around. Thailand has significant more luxery/confienance over other "poor" SE Asian countries. Its more evolved if you wish. Streets with lights, better sidewalks and last but not least bigger western expat communities. Correct me if I am wrong but in Vietnam the banks give great % interest in saving accounts. If you live modest you can "retire/live from the intest" with just as little as 100k/150k USD on the bank. I couldnt myself (I cant live modest) but I know its possible.

That said, I read someone advice you to keep the bitcoins and go live on that from month to month. I dont know if this is smart. Maybe cash abit in and put in a bank. Spread the money on multiple banks for safety.
