repost from the newbie section because I didn't get an answer there

Hi everybody,

I'm using Electrum 1.7.3 with the gap limit left at the default value of 5. When I look at the receiving tab in the classic GUI it shows me 5 unused addresses, so far so good.

However if I switch to lite mode it lists 9 addresses and those in reversed order (#9 being at the top).

1.) Why the difference?
2.) If I understand it correctly (correct me if I'm wrong) the purpose of having to supply the correct gap limit upon restoring from a seed is that Electrum can basically walk through unused addresses up to the limit to see what has been going on. If I were to use the 9th address from lite mode, but none of the other unused addresses (effectively leaving a gap of 8) and then do a recovery from seed with the gap correctly stated as 5, wouldn't that screw up the recovery?

Go back to the Classic GUI, go to settings > view > active Expert Mode

Now you'll see your addresses and your change addresses listed in the receiving tab.

I've never understood the point of generating a new address for each tx.
It's like replacing your mailbox everytime you receive a letter.
