Are there any companies or individuals that help track down stolen bitcoins?  I had 40 BTC that I had on Blockchain stolen awhile back (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=269443.0), and was wondering if there are any people that will help out for a fee?

Buddy get used to the term "decentralized". It is not like your funds were in the bank and you can demand or sue the bank for your losses. Being an individual if your coins get lost, there is not much you can do. You can obviously file a legal complaint, investigation gets through your source of coins, if you had fulfilled the legalities (taxes) while you had these coins in your possession, too much drama. Filing a complaint to a governing authority regarding BTC takes away the whole effort you put into using a decentralized currency.

As far as bounty hunters are concerned, I do not think mate they would able to track down your coins. When an institution scams like exchanges, wallets etc they are somewhat under government regulations and rules and even in such cases it would take years to get even a small percentage of the amount we got scammed. So be careful about your coins in future.

If the hackers used a local exchangers, you could possible identify as exchangers have a KYC and AML regulation and the account he used should submit personal information to identify the hackers.

But if there is a company to help you track and identify the hackers, I think there are none as far as I know.

I'm afraid there are not any companies that can track that. Bitcoin has very high security, if your bitcoin is stolen, I'm sure you made a mistake there, you accidentally caused a virus to infiltrate your wallet.

With my understanding, there is not any company that can track the bitcoin, even the bitcoin head can not investigate the origin of the transaction, bitcoin is too high security, so it become special

There are plenty of taint analysis methods available for free online, even if it's divided to multiple address after thousands of TX's, you will even know how much of the tainted money is in which address. However mixer's can ruin this if the person uses them, as you would need the info from the mixer about the sent-to address (which they will never provide).

there is definitely going to be a paper trail but seeing that coins were actually lost 4 years ago makes the whole process an impossible task  with coins scattered all over the network .

Your best shot at getting the person that wiped your wallet would be track that iphones ip address.

What paper trail are you talking about? This is Bitcoin... here we have a Blockchain to track coins. The problem is that stolen coins are mixed by

mixer services where they keep zero records to trace it back to the stolen coins. How are you going to track coins, when the thief might be

using stolen mobile phones? I can buy extra Sim cards on the street and the same goes for stolen phones. { Throwaway phones are common}  Angry

but i think it's gonna cost you. they mainly work for law enforcement.

even if they did trace it to an exchange, i don't see why the exchange would give up their details without warrants and stuff.

and mixers aren't foolproof.

but it looks like your loss was nearly four years ago. those coins could be scattered across a million wallets by now.

I've read  their last announcement when they so called "tracked" the sources of the wannacry payments.
And in that report they mentioned a few exchanges with sums under 10$.

I really doubt that any person would go and buy 10$ of bitcoin from one exchange and 100 form another and god know how much from yet another source in order to pay the ransom.

So I really doubt the tracking skills of those guys.

What paper trail are you talking about? This is Bitcoin... here we have a Blockchain to track coins. The problem is that stolen coins are mixed by

Sooner or later the coins will land in an exchange...that's probably why he mentioned paper.
I don't see hackers as bitcoin hodl-ers.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!  I really appreciate it.  And as a quick recap of what I believed happened, somebody hacked into my Gmail (as there was records of access by someone outside of me) and then used the backup that Blockchain had emailed me to steal the coins.

I know it is a long shot, but I'd be happy to offer up a 10 BTC reward for anyone who could help me find them, but only if I was able to actually receive the stolen coins back to my wallet.

If anyone else has additional advice/thoughts feel free to post here or DM me.

Sorry, but just to bump this one more time, where would be the best place to find people willing to help out for a finders fee/bounty?  Here, another forum, etc.?

i don't know why but it seems like nobody suggested walletexplorer.com so far! you can search a bitcoin address there and see all the linked addresses, it has some good information but it is not complete but it is free.

if you scroll down to the bottom of the page you'll see their paid services which is more complete and better. if you are serious about finding someone and are willing to pay then contact them and ask how their services are.
but don't have high expectations because this is bitcoin and if someone wants they can hide their tracks pretty well.

This is helpful, we may not guarantee if there is a chance to recover it but atleast we have some source to look too if ever happened.

It would gonna cost you if you strive to look up on those bitcoin back again, unless if its on hundreds then it might be a worth to seek out but its nearly impossible to trace-up when the scammer or hacker of your bitcoin is wiser that you think, they can really easuly use mixers and exchanges and as ECB said 4 years is quiet old and those bitcoin cant really be traced even more.

A lot of analysis companies can help you track your currencies and if you are lucky you will be able to find the user’s identity because he has sent to a platform that contains his identity.

you can track who stolen your bitcoin but it’s hard to back your money (try your luck).
bitcoin is so easy to be tracked because blockchain like notepad every thing is archived.
you will loss more or can back your money.

The problem is knowing the identity and getting back the money, not tracking the currencies.

Hi all ,and in particular MPORT1

Did you have any luck getting some of your coins back?

I m in the same situation.

Had a few BTC stolen a couple of weeks ago.

I tried to message you directly, but there is a setting in your profile that stopped it going out.

"Send report
User 'mport1' has not chosen to allow messages from newbies. You should post in their relevant thread to remind them to enable this setting"

Hope you get this and can reply to me.

Will look fro that setting myself and deactivate it just in case you message me directly.

I know it does not seem that bitcoin's fragmentation and anonymity make it hard to recover after it's lost.

Very sorry to hear this news, I think your bitcoin is likely to chase back, because before someone was also stolen bitcoin, they are over-the-counter transactions, he gave bitcoin to each other, but the other did not turn He can not call the police, because the police will not accept these, so in the end he can only be unlucky, 40 bitcoin can be a huge sum of money, you can try to find a hacker to help you, but your bitcoin most likely to be scattered into hundreds of wallet inside.

Hack Ethics is an experienced Private Hacking Organization with a spare master key that no one has. We can also help you recover your lost BTC or ETH.

so you're telling us that you have a 'master key' that'll get you into any bitcoin or ethereum wallet?

that's some seriously impressive firepower you have there. you'd be better off going to goldman sachs or the chinese government than hanging out with us nobodies. and as you have a way to generate any private key you must also have a computer larger than the known universe.

can you post some pics? we'd love to see it.

Damn man, that is just so heart breaking. If you were gonna do the best you can to find it, you should've done it earlier at the time it was lost. Because clearly, it is nearly impossible now to find those coins since they might have already been used in buying stuff or trading online in thousands if not millions of wallets. Although I know that you really did as much as you could back then but still haven't found it, I pretty much think that there would be any difference in looking for it now. Because by now, chances of finding it would've become thinner. I think that there won't be anything much that you can do about it anymore. Hope your story becomes a great lesson for everyone man, thanks for sharing.
And for what it's worth, I really am so sorry that you lost that much bitcoins.
