Hi guys,

So I have a myethetherwallet. I want to contribute to the ICO of this new project https://wallet.aeternity.com

My question is, if you look at the website, you can see that when you click ''contribute now'' and click through specificially by paying with ETH, it gives you the option to use your own existing wallet. Now when you click there it shows the same login screen box you get on myetherwallet.com. Where you can upload your wallet file, and put in your password to unlock it etc.

Still, this is on the aeternity.com website, so is this even really safe??? Maybe this is a beginners question, but if this were to be a scam website (it's not, it's an actual project), I would think twice about using the option given and uploading the wallet to their website.

I would like to hear some thoughts on how secure this is really. Is this usual? Do more websites/projects/services where you can pay with ETH, actually embed this myetherwallet widget box?

Because really they could be able to copy password you enter through their website, and the file you're uploading right? In other words, stealing your wallet contents.

Thanks for the feedback.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

If you are unsure, you can contact the developer and staff on their slack account: https://slack.aeternity.com/ or telegram account: https://telegram.me/aeternity and since you find it unsafe to import your wallet on their site, just create another wallet on myetherwallet.com and transfer the amount you want to invest in that wallet. In this case, you will only be using a wallet with the amount you want to invest while your other balance would be safe in your main wallet.

it looks a little different according to this - https://medium.com/@BitHope.org/how-to-send-ether-to-%C3%A6ternitys-contribution-campaign-wallet-e11ef89b847e

you're creating a wallet on their website and sending your eth contribution to that from your existing wallet. i guess that somehow combines paying and registering for the ico at once.

it still doesn't seem like a very secure method. getting a seed from a live website isn't too safe.

That is best advice. I don't understand why you asking ethereum project question on bitcoin forum. I mean, there must be ethereum forums out there.
Glad u get help here also, hope you turn to one true and meaningful store of value, Bitcoin!
