Allowing something to exist does not encourage it, and a few merchants accepting it in addition to fiat does not indicate adoption at all.

Any price rises which happen from this would just be empty speculation, not based on actual users.

I don't think that one company's decision can make a big difference to Bitcoin. Let say they do really accepted Bitcoin in their payment processors the question is will the people be using it as an option? Let us go back to what drives Bitcoin, and its  the demand of it if people are started using Bitcoin as a 2nd kind of currency in Russia then you are right.

This seems a great movement from the Russians, If they are implement the bitcoin as a payment processor of their own. It would be next big snow on bitcoin, you no need to worry about BTC economy. Price will be take to flight and it may 3000$ after some days or a month.

No, at the moment Russia isn’t adopting Bitcoin, it is legalizing the use of Bitcoin. For a while Russia had banned the use of Bitcoin, but recently has said it would lift the ban and allow people to use it. While this can’t hurt Bitcoin it can’t really help either unless a large amount of people start using it because of the ban repeal.

Though this is a sort of legalizing with some certain controls and regulations, this is indeed better than totally banning Bitcoin from use in Russia. I am sure that finance managers already look at the situation and finally realized that they can miss a big boat here for opportunities. They must have learned that Japan has already done it can is poised to reap the benefits that Bitcoin can bring to a country if properly managed. This can soon be another cap on Bitcoin shoulder and can help push the currency to new heights.

Russia had its effect on the bitcoin price when they finally said they are thinking about legalizing bitcoin after many years. the news like this is not going to change much about price, maybe a little nudge but nothing major. but these types of things will help bitcoin in the long run. a payment processor accepting bitcoin will attract more users by introducing bitcoin to them and that is the long term adoption.

Bwa ha, but IMO likely a lot of truth there.  But, Putin will not wear a plastic Trezor.  Gold or platinum, perhaps.  Or if Patek Phillippe would make a hardware device.

BTC is a tad too decentralized for typical Russian governments that like control.  Yeah, sure, I would like to see a major player like Russia get into Bitcoin in a big way.  That would add maybe another $500 to the price, smile,,,  But, as they used to say when I lived in Texas:

"Hold your breath, you'll die."

i believe it is a bit too soon for a "price explosion" because we just had the biggest rise and now price is calm and we are experiencing the after correction accumulation phase.
if this news came out a week or two earlier that would have made a big impact.

If its true,then that would be a great news.Russia being the second super power would definitely help bitcoin price to raise by adopting bitcoin.Hope the same strategy would be taken by indian government too without trying to ban bitcoin.Russia is a communist country which doesnot allows new inventions easily.But since it has decided to accept bitcoin payments,thats a big success for bitcoin.

I do not agree with you. If some of your bigger payment processors show enough confidence to publicly announce that they are going to accept Bitcoin as a payment option, then the smaller merchant will follow. We normally see the smaller merchants taking the lead with something new, but this is a significant move from the bigger players. ^smile^

I do not agree with you. If some of your bigger payment processors show enough confidence to publicly announce that they are going to accept Bitcoin as a payment option, then the smaller merchant will follow. We normally see the smaller merchants taking the lead with something new, but this is a significant move from the bigger players. ^smile^

i don't know how big is this chronopay but unless this thing is big like paypal, it won't do much for the adoption, but it's nice to have beginning there in russia, if other small payment processor will follow you can have something

but until russia regulate directly and view bitcoin as a currency like japan, it won't increase the usage  too much in their country

True but how can we cut the hype that a btc fun is feeling? If you think that the current price is enough then you have to think on the same way that most of this fans are thinking because we are still hoping for it
