I do quite a bit of charting, this is the most effective on the high volume coins. ou can use the same principals as tracking stocks with the understanding of increased volatility. I like to use trading view in order to track price fluctuations and volume
Stocks are much different from alts because we have a lot of speculations on daily basis which influence trade, and volume is much lower so can be dangerous . When volume lowers even more here comes the dump..Alts are very volatile and as such have greater risks but also gain on small scale can be significant..You can invest 1$ and get in return 1000$ which is impossible elsewhere..

There is more info than could ever be covered here, but here is one piece of advice to watch for the dev dump.  When looking at the buy/sell page on a coin that is new to you.  Look at the sell tickets that are waiting to be filled.  If you see a long line of even amounts, then the dev may be dumping coins now or in the future, or someone that is trying to unload them.  Big amounts lined up are obvious, but most slick operators will plant trip wires sell tickets.  Once they see the tickets start filling, then they dump the big amounts.

I just visit always the update on there ANN thread. If devs are active then  his coin is OK. Bt on technical analysis, I just check the moving average line. When red is overlapping the green or sometimes yellow then it is dump. When  it crosses again, its a signal in my opinion.

Always join their slack channel and all other social media in order to collect as much information you can. For example XC was dead for almost 2 years and im not sure if anyone can find their active thread at the moment. But yes the are very active and preparing many nice things..Try to connect with people and try to make few friends who can alarm you if needed..
