Hello,

as my old Galaxy Note 2 is slowly dying, I need a new Android smartphone.

I thought of the new OnePlus 5, but other smartphones are also acceptable, as long as they have good specs.

Any suggestions for a good 2017 smartphone with Snapdragon, no Mediatek?

LOL. Xiaomi. Stuff is Chinese crap. Need to buy reliable phone production proven company. You yourself say that you had a Samsung and it is not broken, just obsolete. Isn't it a reason to buy a phone of the same brand only a modern model.

You have the option of flashing ROM if you want a pure android. but yes, warranty void.

Anyway, OnePlus 5 is a good choice, but please wait till official announcement to see the real specs. another candidate if you can wait LG G6. Nokia 8 also getting quite a hype.

Root is also important to me and this does not void the oneplus warranty in contrast to the samsung one. The new stock android is good enough for me for atleast some time. Lateron i know that the quite active oneplus community provides many different quality roms which don´t support samsung devices.

Better Snapdragon than  Mediatek. Why not samsung again? Very stable smartphone in my opinion

I have had several Samsung and none of them broke. This is a very good firm. Currently Samsung and Apple are direct competitors and leaders in the segment of smartphones, but Samsung are always cheaper. I think you should pay attention to this company.

As someone who works with phones regularly I'd like to throw HTC into the ring, I'm not a huge fan of glass in general but the HTC10 and 11 are excellent easily rooted phones with a strong community for roms.
(information about the phones, some of which i've written)

i am oneplus one user, its great phone, i have tried oneplus two but i like oneplus one better, its has enough ram and internal storage 64 gigs.

why buy oneplus 5 with 6/8 gegs of ram?, what apps needs that much ram ? imho compaines are just trying to get more customer just buy boosting specs., and above 3/4 gigs its overkill.

why not get new samsung s8+, it has huge screen. and samsung is reputable brand.

the only thing i like about oneplus over others is sandstone back, i dont like to use the covers so sandstone back gives kind of firm grip without using any cover.

My plan is to buy it within the next two weeks, but a review from someone of our community would still be nice.

I read chinese brands do sometimes have problems with spyware.
How true is that?

I only use samsung but the chinese smartphones are usually 50% cheaper with the same specs...
