good cpu miner

used guiminer, but it doesn't use cpu. I just have a few old laptops which I am considering to farm pool.

Any good tips on a cpu miner?

Don't use cpu for mining at all. Google for 'bitcoin mining hardware comparison' or 'litecoin mining hardware comparison' and deside whether to mine with CPU

Agreed. But bitcoin-qt can CPU mine if you're really determined.

bfgminer worked fine with AMD Phenom II.

poclbm works too, tried today with AMD A10-5800K APU.

Although CPU mining technically works, it isn't useful when speeds are <10 MH/s.

From what little I've learned the bitcoin ... currently mining in CPU, not worth almost nothing.

I with my graphics card ... it takes me 5 days to have only 0.05 BTC (average 180Mh/s)... not even want to imagine the time it would if it were in CPU.

Don't mine BTC/LTC with a CPU. But its perfectly acceptable to mine CNC with it for example. 50kh/s nets you about 1CNC per hour. That is 24 per day. Its not that much but It may be in the near future.

I'm a newbie but I have a unique situation where I don't have to worry about power consumption (to a point) as I am in a high rise office building in Dallas and the power is included in my rent.   What would you guys recommend as far as graphics cards to get started mining?  Remembering I don't have to worry about power consumption.

I would go for a 7950 or a 7970.

I use pooler cpu miner with a intel 3930K. It gives 83 additional kh/s (litecoin).

pooler CPU miner is the best - if you have access to few PCs where you can setup night job its pretty profitable

Could you explain more on that? I have a few desktops that have been sitting around. Granted one needs a new motherboard and the other is about 5 years old. Could I/Should I set them up to mine? If so, how could I go about doing this? Pls PM!

cgminer hands down. Use it for BTC and LTC.
Bitminter has an interesting java app.

I've using (when mining bitcoins on CPU) ufasoft CPU miner. Look for version 36 with 64-bit bitcoin-miner-64.exe, it is much faster.
