Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

That depends on your conditions, if you're in a cool area and have low electricity rates then yes the R9 390 is absolutely a choice you might have, it still gets (last time i checked) approximately 30mhs on eth, it just draws a lot of power.

Well it will be in my house so 76 degrees on the regular and it cost about .10 cents a kw. And i was planning on mining like Litecoin/Doge, Dash maybe.....and/or eth

None of those except ETH are profitable to mine with GPU's. With the current ETH pricing, it makes sense to mine with older cards, especially if your power is less than 0.20 cents /KWH. Even a RX 460 card rig, which are cheaper and more readily available would be profitable.

That's actually pretty good, you can not mine these with gpus, mostly eth/etc/zec are currently profitable with gpus, also look into r9 280/290 as they can be pretty profitable in Zec mining, older cards will probably ROI faster than rx 470/480s as they are less expensive.

So i am obviously new to this but my understanding is that the litecoin, fethercoin, factom things like that were really easy to mine right now since they were a low difficulty and you SHOULD use a gpu for that kind of stuff? I was under the impression that bitcoin and things were like the asci cards higher end....?

There are scrypt and X11 ASIC miners and they haven't been profitable to GPU mine for years. Even more ASIC's are coming online from the most recent surge in LTC. Neoscrypt coins like FTC are profitable with GPU's, but there are more profitable options to mine, like ZCash and ETH.

I wouldn't rush to buy less efficient GPUs due to the current ether price. You have less room to mine if the price takes a dive.

Yea, but with the entry price of $120 - $140 per card, no 6/8 pin required and 50W per card, a 650W PSU would be plenty for up to 7 cards. The GPU ROI is still only 2 months. You can always upgrade the cards as more options become available, sell the 460's for at least half the original cost and resuse everything else.

so i started buying parts for a rig im building this is what i bought:

Is there a better or different motherboard i could get?

Motherboard: Asus P9X79-E WS
Processor: Intel Xeon E5-2650 2.0GHz 8 Core Processor, 20MB Cache, Sandy Bridge EP Socket 2011 with Thermal Grease
Ram: Avexir Core Series (Blue LED) 8GB Kit (2 x 4GB) Dual Channel 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Module AVD3U16001104G-2CW
Power Supply: Evea G3 1000w
Risers: 6-Pack V006 PCI-E 16x to 1x Powered Riser GPU Adapter

Thats about $650 without any cards.....? good choices?

It would be nice to have a list of hardware lol

But its sounding like i should get the RX 460's and get all my money back in 2 months then maybe sell them and get better ones.......but is the equipment above good to do that with or could i have bought cheaper equipment up to too?

Ive never heard of that mobo but on doing some research, it is listed on ebay for nearly 300$, dont spend that much on a motherboard. you should probably get an msi z170a, either the msi z170a-pro or the gaming m5, they are 120$ tops, also couple them with a g3900 processor (55$) and a 4/8gb of ram, that's about 200-230$ for the mobo/cpu/ram and with the evga that's less than 400 total with the risers, spend more money on cards and less money on the motherboard.

What are thoughts on the Z170A Gaming M5 versus the Biostar TB250-BTC?

And are you saying all of that above then get 4 or 5 RX 460's?

Also, what does everyone do about an operating system? Buy a hard drive and install windows 10? Just install Linux?

It depends on what plans you have for the rig. If just want to start mining as soon as possible, as mentioned a 650W would be plenty for up to 7 460 cards. Stick with EVGA or Corsair Gold or Platinum rated models. The EVGA 650W P2 is a great choice for under $100:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438055

The EVGA 750W P2 or G2 is also a good choice and it comes with twice as many VGA ports. Once you upgrade to better cards you can daisy chain a second PSU and have less out of pocket than a single larger PSU. If you want to wait, RX 570/580 should be more available in a week or two.

If you want to use Windows, an OEM license is available on eBay for less than $5. Any cheap 64GB SSD is enough. If you want to use smOS, a flash drive is sufficient.

Sorry to barge in, I just didn't want to create another thread. I have a Radeon HD6850. I know its an older card, but considering I don't pay electricity, is there anything I could mine?

The HD 7XXX series is the cutoff for the current Crimson Relive AMD drivers, so compatibility with modern coins and miners will be very limited. Something like Monero would be about the best option.

Gotcha....so the OEM license. Is that buying just the license and me already having a install disk. Then during the instal when it ask for the license key I enter that one in?

Also can I run 7 cards on the 650w P2 PSU? I probably will only run like 4 or 5 at first but just wondering how many physically I could run, not wattage wise as you said it would run 7

When you buy the OEM license on eBay, the sellers  provide a link to download the ISO if you don't have one. You can use that to create a boot flash drive using Rufus. If you plan on using 6+ GPU's, you must install Windows in UEFI mode. Make sure to select GPT disk for UEFI from the Rufus menu when creating the install flash drive or you can select the cd UEFI boot in the motherboard boot menu.

The RX 460's without the PCI-E power connectors should use less than 50 watts each as BBT shows in the video. How many cards you can put in a rig is limited by what the motherboard supports. Most motherboards have less than 6 PCI-E slots. The ones that have 6 or more, do not always work with that many cards or are a pain to setup, so it's important to stick tp motherboards that are known to support 6+ cards.

You also need to get a power usage meter to check how much power is being used by the rig and make sure it's efficient.

gotcha....ill google how to do that, im assuming thats not difficult once i get Rufus downloaded.

Is that what i need the SSD for? Download the ISO file from the seller, create the boot flash drive with Rufus and save what ever it creates on the SSD?

Hey everyone....can anyone tell me a good alternative to the RX 470? I mean those are SO hard to get at a good price....is there anything similar?

Maybe the R9 390?

Any ideas?

no the 390 is old, buy a new card, liek the 570 or 580, if you want to go with nvidia go with the 1060, i assume your budget isvery low, if you can't aim for big flag card like 1070, but it's worth it trust me

Hi Vaccinus,

is 1070 really worth it? assuming the electricity rate in my country is $0.19usd/kwh, is it is still profitable?

im planning to start on 2 1070's, do you know how much profit per day will i get from those 2 cards?

thanks
