Heya,
I was wondering, with the rush of useless alt coins, is there still anything innovative we could do for a new coin? I would be very interested in making a coin, but I'm not going to make a LTC clone, change the difficulty and rename it, I was wondering, can we still do anything innovative, or is LTC the only alt coin we need?

I'm not quite sure who this 'we' is you speak about. The market will ultimately decide, really that simple.

A coin that has 4x as many coins as all coins combined with only a 0.0000001 second confirmation time.

Top of my list would be "Proof for useful work" coins (see the Proof of folding thread that I posted in extensively). That's a coin that can do some serious social good.

Other minor things are block rewards that increase w/ hashpower (to an extent, that's also called inflation), other hash algos like Skein, other proof-of system (proof of storage was proposed as a Dropbox-like alternative, and is potentially very interesting). There's a lot of concepts out there, but it's unfortunate that fly-by-night coins have taken the limelight right now.

make a direct democracy coin. that will solve the problem bitcoin has with the bitcoin foundation. every user of the coin gets 1 vote and every decision about the coin gets voted on by every user. any user can propose a change and if a certain percent of users support it then it will be approved for a vote. you can call it direct democracy coin or DDC. it will be the worlds first truly decentralized coin without a central governing body controlling it in secret making back room deals behind closed doors, called the bitcoin foundation.

if you don't know what direct democracy is look it up. its not the same as representative democracy. representative democracy is a failure. direct democracy is what the world needs now.

What would there to vote about?
how commits will be made to the source code. whether we will pay someone to build infrastructure and work on programming for the coin. if so then how he will be paid, through donations or a tax or something similar. if not then i guess it will only be done by people willing to work on it for free. there are lots of things to decide. many brains working together is much better than one and people will feel passionate about it because they can directly effect it. they will feel it is theirs. this will make them work much harder for it and put their heart and soul into it.

not to mention it will do something good for the world unlike scamcoins.

I've spent the last two years coming up with 4 major departures from bitclones: better security, better propagation, stable/fair minting, and adaptability. The link is in my signature.

Devilcoin:  Cap of 666million coins, confirms in 666 milliseconds, and the coin logo would have a little picture of a devil on it.

No.  All addresses will actually be just the name of a metal band.

It's an okay idea I guess, it could work in terms of that it will make it theirs. I wonder what a good name would be. 'MURICOIN

Is there ever enough businesses? not really, some will establish market share and some won't, but just cause I think there is no reason to discourage coin creation if someone tries to oversell the merits of a coin I'll call them out.

That's what I loved about small change, he was straight up that it was for the most part a simple fork.

Call it "MaidenCoin" and refer to mining as "Upping the Irons". Then you'll have my support  Tongue

Welcome to development!  All these alt coins are offering something new in one way or another.

It might just be a new name, or a new ay of doing everything, but the point is that the more new coins there are, the more likely it is that we hit magic, and find a coin that is ideal for main stream adoption!

I really do think that the best model to give some forecasting on what might happen is to look at how Linux developed. We started with a concept, then we got distributions, then we got new types of distros, and eventually, we end up with a distro that was supported by a company with a marketing department.  Ubuntu introduced ease of use, and suddenly it really took off.

Google then developed Android, and a new platform, and even more ease of use.  Now its the biggest market share for mobiles and tablets, and all this started in 1991!

Bitcoin brought us the blockchain, and a mining process.  Litecoin brought us a different way to do mining as well as speeding up the process - all in less than 5 years.  Imagine what we will have in another 15 years?

Its only going to be possible with new alt coins

Welcome to development!

also you could add a feature where the mining does something good like folding or setti. i don't know if that's possible but it would certainly be nice.

That would draw the Nvidia crowd to bitcoin too. I know I am stuck with 3 Nvidia cards and have pretty much no use for them mining cept on early jump ons... once the dif gets a bit too high it becomes not even worth the electricity I use.

We NVDcoin! Optimised for Nvidia! Maybe by using floating point calculations instead of integer?

we could vote on which infrastructure will be made. what changes will be made to the source code. there could even be polls to decide the specifics about the coin before it is released. for example whether it will be scrypt or sha or something new. the total number of coins to be created. what the block reward will be and how often blocks will be created. whether it will only be CPU friendly or only GPU friendly.
