Hi,

As the title suggests, I am considering copying the Bitcoin dir from my Windows 7 system to my mac book to reduce the amount of time taken for synchronization etc...

will this work?
Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

I'm pretty sure it will, as long as the two haven't been compiled with different versions of leveldb ( This might happen, because I once had a problem with the Litecoin blockchain because the windows installer used a different version of bdb. )

The best way to check is to do it.
As long as you've backed up your wallet.dat you've got nothing to worry about.
