Hello All,

I'm a newbie so please be gentle. I've been Googling away for nearly 2 weeks now so to cut down on my questions but here goes.

I only found out about the whole world of cryptocurrency a couple of weeks ago so have been researching and am thinking of setting up a small rig at home (in the UK). It seems that there is a whole battle going on between red and blue teams regarding which GPU to use. My current thinking is to start relatively small and get 2 x 1080Ti but buy the rest of the kit to allow for expansion up to 6 or maybe more and add more cards as I go along.

What's the difference between a £645 1080Ti like this one:-

http://www.ebuyer.com/785845-zotac-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-11gb-blower-zt-p10810b-10p

And a £780 card like this one:-

http://www.ebuyer.com/785730-asus-gtx-1080ti-rog-strix-oc-11gb-gddr5x-graphics-card-rog-strix-gtx1080ti-o11g-gaming

Apart from £135 before some smart ar$e says ;-)

I've also been looking at mobo's and was thinking either an AS Rock H81 Pro BTC or Biostar TB-250-BTC. Will they both support the 1080Ti?

Also, do I need 4Gb RAM or would it be better to get 8Gb?

Does the speed of my internet connection make much difference? i.e. should I get a LAN connection or will WiFi suffice?

Any help / suggestions appreciated. Thanks

you don't buy a 1080ti to mine ETH trust me, no point in that you would lose money mining ETH even if you do dual mining, 1080ti is very strong on skein, it's the best algo for this gpu, or lbry also and zcash are very good for this beast of gpu

Next question: Why do you want to spend £645 on a graphics card that will get 31 mhs when 2 x RX 480/580s can get 56mhs for less than £500?

That's why I'm here - to ask questions and learn the best way forward. :-)
Ok then, theoretical question - can you run e.g. 1 x 1080Ti and 2 x RX580s in the same rig and mine different things or are there compatibility issues?

Yes, you can run Nvidia and AMD cards on the same rig. I just added a MSI 1080 Gaming X to my RX 480 rig. The Nvidia cards are also easier to setup, just install the latest driver and it runs out of the box. No bios patches, driver patches or hard system crashes like with the AMD drivers.
