It is not so much a self escrow as it is TMAN having nicknames for the escrow agent and zero professional respect for how their service is run.

I have been entrusted with amounts larger than 50 BTC for members of this forum in single transactions and have always delivered. That's how this all started (a request for a photo of the back of the coins), and that's what would decide the winner from my standpoint.
